The original cast of ABC’s Dynasty spent most of the 1980s on the show, which the Television Academy records as airing on ABC from January 1981 to May 1989. The public record confirms the roles and some later careers, but it does not confirm where every living cast member is or what they are doing as of October 2026. The one death the sources below document is that of John Forsythe, who played Blake Carrington. Read the sections below for what is established for each performer and where the evidence stops.
Who was in the original cast
The Television Academy’s series record lists the central performers and documents the changes in several roles. Some characters were played by more than one actor during the run, so the table separates them.
| Character | Performer | Role dates as listed by the Television Academy |
|---|---|---|
| Blake Carrington | John Forsythe | Not dated in the cited listing |
| Krystle Jennings Carrington | Linda Evans | 1981–1989 (per Evans’s official biography) |
| Alexis Carrington Colby | Joan Collins | Not dated in the cited listing |
| Fallon Carrington Colby | Pamela Sue Martin | 1981–1984 |
| Fallon Carrington Colby | Emma Samms | Later seasons (exact years not stated) |
| Steven Carrington | Al Corley | 1981–1982 |
| Steven Carrington | Jack Coleman | 1982–1988 |
| Adam Carrington / Michael Torrance | Gordon Thomson | 1982–1989 |
| Jeff Colby | John James | Not dated in the cited listing |
| Claudia Blaisdel | Pamela Bellwood | Not dated in the cited listing |
| Matthew Blaisdel | Bo Hopkins | Not dated in the cited listing |
| Sammy Jo | Heather Locklear | Not dated in the cited listing |

Recasting during the run
Two roles changed hands early. Pamela Sue Martin played Fallon from 1981 to 1984, and Emma Samms took over the part in later seasons. Al Corley played Steven in 1981 and 1982, and Jack Coleman took the role from 1982 to 1988. A reader looking for “the original cast” therefore means the performers in the opening seasons, and the sections below treat them that way. The encyclopedia entry describes the series as a whole and does not add cast detail beyond this.

Where the principal performers went after the series
Each entry below separates what a source documents from what it does not. Where a later credit is listed, its date is noted because a credit from the 2010s is not evidence of current work.
John Forsythe (Blake Carrington)
ABC News reported in a January 2013 retrospective that Forsythe died in April 2010 in California, aged 92. That is the only death in the sources cited here. The report is a dated historical account and says nothing about the present day. Source: ABC News, “‘Dynasty’ Turns 32: Where Are the Carringtons Now?”, January 3, 2013.

Linda Evans (Krystle Carrington)
Evans’s official biography confirms her role and the 1981–1989 dates. It also records that she won the British version of Hell’s Kitchen in 2009, that she published the cookbook and memoir Recipes for Life in 2012, and that she later returned to performing. The biography does not give a current location or a dated list of recent projects. ABC News, in a 2009 interview, quoted her describing Hollywood pressure as “too big” and saying she had moved north and enjoyed life without makeup. That quote dates from 2009 and is not a statement from her official biography. Source: Linda Evans official website, Bio.
Joan Collins (Alexis Carrington Colby)
The 2013 ABC News retrospective says Collins continued working in television, films and plays after Dynasty, and it describes her writing career. Those are period-specific details. The sources here do not establish her current schedule.

Gordon Thomson (Adam Carrington)
The 2013 ABC News account notes later soap-opera roles and an appearance in Little Miss Sunshine. Those credits are historical. Describing them as recent work in 2026 would overstate what the source shows.
John James (Jeff Colby)
According to the same 2013 account, James continued in soap-opera work after Dynasty and The Colbys. The article does not report what he is doing now.

Pamela Sue Martin (Fallon) and Al Corley (Steven)
The Television Academy verifies both performers’ original roles and dates. The sources reviewed for this article do not establish where Martin or Corley live or what work they do now. Readers should not rely on older reporting or social-media posts for those details, because neither is a reliable current record.

Pamela Bellwood, Bo Hopkins and the later Fallon and Steven performers
The cited sources list Pamela Bellwood (Claudia Blaisdel), Bo Hopkins (Matthew Blaisdel) and Jack Coleman and Emma Samms in their series roles, but they do not document their post-series careers. The article therefore reports no later work for them. Emma Samms and Jack Coleman joined the show after the opening seasons and are covered by the recasting section above.

Reunion and further reading
A two-part reunion, Dynasty: The Reunion, aired in October 1991, according to the Encyclopedia of TV & Radio. A 2006 press release from CBS and Paramount Press Express also lists historical reunion participants and their roles, and it is a reliable record of who was involved in that announcement. Source: Encyclopedia of TV & Radio, Dynasty; Paramount Press Express, 2006 reunion press release.
For a companion read, the Television Academy lists Dynasty: The Authorized Biography of the Carringtons, published in 1984. This article does not establish whether a current edition is in print or where to buy it.
The Bottom Line
The original Dynasty cast’s roles and the 1981–1989 run are well documented. Forsythe’s death in 2010 is the one documented change in cast status. For the living performers, the public record supports only dated career notes, and it does not confirm their current whereabouts or activities.
