What happened to Daniel Puder in WWE?
Puder won Tough Enough in 2004, the reality competition that offered its winner a path into WWE. That path ended the following year. WWE’s contemporaneous report said he had been released earlier that week and noted that he declined to comment at the time: “Daniel Puder, the Tough Enough winner who was released by WWE earlier this week, declined to comment on his situation when contacted by WWE.com Tuesday afternoon.” WWE.com’s 2005 report establishes the release, but does not give a definitive reason for it.
A 2022 retrospective by Wrestling Inc. says Puder appeared on two WWE pay-per-views, moved to developmental Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), and was released as part of a cost-cutting effort. That explanation is the retrospective’s account, not a reason stated in WWE’s release report. The incident involving Kurt Angle has featured in later discussion of Puder’s career, but the available sources do not establish it as the reason WWE let him go. A 2020 interview listing confirms that Puder later discussed the incident and his Tough Enough win, but it is not a transcript and cannot establish what he said in detail. Puder’s public work moved toward mentoring, education and training. His official site describes him as a social entrepreneur and co-founder of My Life My Power, and says he launched the nonprofit in 2010.
