Brightpaw lost an eye when a pack of dogs attacked her and Swiftpaw at Snakerocks. Swiftpaw was killed; Brightpaw survived with severe facial injuries, including a shredded ear. After she recovered, she became known first as Lostface and later as Brightheart.
How Brightpaw was injured
In A Dangerous Path, Brightpaw and Swiftpaw went to Snakerocks to investigate the disappearance of ThunderClan prey. A pack of dogs attacked the apprentices. Swiftpaw died, while Brightpaw suffered devastating injuries: she lost an eye, much of the fur on one side of her face, and part of one ear was shredded.
Why Bluestar called her Lostface
After Brightpaw recovered, Bluestar gave her the name Lostface. The name was meant to memorialize the attack and reflected Bluestar’s belief that StarClan had failed to protect the apprentices. It was a painful name for Brightpaw, not the one she would keep.
How she became Brightheart
Firestar later renamed her Brightheart in a warrior ceremony, recognizing her spirit despite her injuries. The new name replaced Lostface and became the name by which she is known.

What happened to her warrior story
Brightheart did not leave warrior life behind. Cloudtail helped train her to fight with one eye and adapt to her blind side. She went on to hunt and fight as a warrior, showing that the attack changed how she had to do those things, but did not end her role in the Clan.
