Caillou did not disappear when PBS Kids stopped carrying the original series in 2021. PBS described the move as a programming refresh; reports at the time said the franchise would continue elsewhere, and WildBrain later announced a Peacock partnership for a new animated series and five family specials. That announcement does not confirm what is currently available to stream in any particular country.
Why did PBS Kids stop showing Caillou?
On January 5, 2021, PBS Kids said it would no longer carry the series. TVLine reported that PBS described the decision as part of its “ongoing efforts to continuously refresh our offerings to meet the needs of today’s kids.” The change concerned PBS Kids’ broadcast and digital offerings—not a worldwide cancellation of the character or franchise. TVLine’s report
Some adults had criticized Caillou as whiny or as modeling tantrums and poor behavior. That reaction was part of the public discussion around the show, but the reporting does not establish that complaints caused PBS Kids to remove it. The explanation attributed to PBS was its effort to refresh its programming.
What was Caillou, and where did it come from?
The television series was based on Canadian books and followed an imaginative four-year-old. A Florida Public Broadcasting Service programming booklet describes that premise. The official franchise description presents Caillou as an inquisitive child whose world involves play, learning, and imagination, and says the show aims to support children’s emotional growth as they explore the world. Was Caillou coming back in a reboot?
WildBrain announced a partnership with Peacock for a new CG-animated Caillou series and five family specials. The announcement, published in 2022 and updated in April 2024, establishes that the projects were announced; it does not by itself show that every planned title was released or is currently available on Peacock. Streaming catalogs vary by country and change over time, so check the service’s local catalog for current availability. WildBrain’s announcement

So, was Caillou cancelled?
Only in the narrower sense that PBS Kids retired the older series from its own offerings in 2021. The character and franchise did not end with that decision: contemporary reporting described continuation outside PBS, and WildBrain later announced a separate reboot partnership. Those are distinct from whether a particular version can be watched today in a given location.
