Lana returns in “Bride,” season 8, episode 10, which the Smallville season-eight episode guide dates to November 20, 2008. Her return leads into the final arc of her story on the series.

In a January 22, 2009 interview with TV Guide, Kristin Kreuk, who played Lana, said there was information about Lana’s return that only Lana knew. She put it this way: “There’s a lot of stuff going on with Lana that nobody knows except for her.”

“Power” reveals why she came back
The episode guide identifies “Power,” episode 13, as the point when the truth behind Lana’s return is revealed. Her return is not simply a reunion with Clark; it sets up the conflict that drives her departure.

“Requiem” ends her relationship with Clark
In “Requiem,” episode 14, which aired February 5, 2009, Lana uses the Prometheus suit to absorb kryptonite and stop a threat. The kryptonite makes her toxic to Clark. She leaves town because the two can no longer be together safely.
Kreuk described the farewell as involving “a lot of tears.” She also said Lana and Lois do not interact in Lana’s remaining episodes. The show does not depict Lana giving Lois her blessing or directly handing Clark over to her.

Who does Lana end up with?
The supported answer is that Lana does not end up with Clark. They separate because of the kryptonite-infused suit, and Lana leaves town. The available episode guide does not identify a later husband or romantic partner for her, so it would be unsupported to say she ends up with Lex or another character.
Lana’s final arc is in season eight, not the series finale. A later retrospective notes that the showrunners wanted Kreuk to appear in the finale, but respected her wish to pursue other opportunities. That context does not change what the series establishes about Lana’s romantic outcome.
