Jennifer Lopez’s clothing business did not end in one moment. The apparel line launched under the J.Lo name in 2001 was marketed through a company called Sweetface Fashions. In June 2009, Sweetface announced that it was suspending production while it prepared to reintroduce the brand later with a new fashion direction. Available reporting does not show that a reintroduction took place. Her most recent fashion work is a footwear collaboration with REVOLVE announced in 2023, which is a separate venture rather than a return of the Sweetface apparel line.
Why the question is confusing
“Jennifer Lopez’s fashion line” can refer to several different businesses. Some were apparel labels, one was a licensed fragrance and cosmetics line, and one was a much later footwear collaboration with a retailer. They overlapped in time and in branding, which is why readers often remember them as one thing. The table below separates them, followed by the details of each.
| Name | Period | Product category | Positioning as described | Business form |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez | Announced April 2001 | Women’s clothing | Not stated beyond Lopez’s description of fashion as an extension of her artistic expression | Apparel line marketed by Sweetface Fashions |
| Sweetface | Reporting dates its creation to 2003; production suspended June 2009 | Apparel | Began as urban-style clothing and, by 2009, was described as moving toward less casual fashion | Company that marketed the apparel |
| JustSweet | Described by CBS/AP in September 2007 | Young contemporary apparel | Priced between the denim-and-T-shirt J.Lo line and the higher-priced Sweetface line | Not stated |
| Glow by J.Lo | Launched 2002, according to a U.S. District Court filing | Fragrance and cosmetics | Not stated | Worldwide licensing arrangement between Coty/Lancaster and Sweetface, entered 2002 |
| JLO Jennifer Lopez for REVOLVE | Announced 2023; debuted online March 16, 2023 | Footwear: heels and boots | First release of 16 pieces, with announced retail prices between $145 and $200 | Exclusive online collaboration with REVOLVE; footwear developed by Camuto Group, per REVOLVE |
The 2001 apparel line and Sweetface
Lopez announced a women’s clothing line under the J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez name in April 2001. In a Los Angeles Times report from April 27, 2001, she said fashion was “a natural extension of what I think is my artistic expression,” adding that it was connected to her childhood dreams of acting, singing and dancing. The same report says she partnered with Andy Hilfiger and Larry Stemmerman to form Sweetface Fashions, the company that would market and sell the line.
Sweetface became the name most associated with the apparel business. Reporting gives different starting points for the company itself: it describes Sweetface as created in 2003 and linked to the J.Lo products. The 2001 announcement already named Sweetface Fashions as the marketer, so the 2003 date most likely reflects when the Sweetface label is described in later coverage rather than when the company was first formed. The exact formation date is not settled by the available reporting.
#1 Best Overall
JustSweet: a lower price tier
In September 2007, CBS/AP described JustSweet as a young contemporary line that sat between the denim-and-T-shirt J.Lo line and the higher-priced Sweetface line. Lopez explained the aim in her own words: “I’m not looking for the credibility,” she said. “I’m looking to make clothes that every woman can wear.” JustSweet is best understood as a separate label in the same family rather than a continuation of Sweetface after 2009.
Glow by J.Lo: a licensed beauty line
Glow by J.Lo is a different kind of business. A U.S. District Court filing describes a worldwide licensing arrangement in which Coty and Lancaster entered into an agreement with Sweetface in 2002 for fragrance and cosmetics, and the Glow by J.Lo products launched that year. A licence of this kind means the fragrance and cosmetics were produced and sold under the agreement, so their existence says nothing about whether the clothing line continued after 2009.

What happened in 2009
On June 25, 2009, El País reported that Lopez would temporarily withdraw Sweetface apparel distribution in the United States. The report quoted the company’s statement in Spanish: “A la luz de las nuevas estrategias de la empresa, hemos decidido suspender la fabricación de Sweetface mientras preparamos la reintroducción de la marca en un futuro con un nuevo punto de vista de la moda.” In English: “In light of the company’s new strategies, we have decided to suspend Sweetface manufacturing while we prepare to reintroduce the brand in the future with a new fashion point of view.”
That wording describes a pause with a possible return. It does not announce a closure, and it does not describe a date or a completed relaunch. El País also identified the Spring 2009 collection as the latest one at that point.

Both El País and Diario Libre reported that Sweetface had US$200 million in revenue in 2006. Diario Libre also said the final 2009 collection did not sell. These are press-reported figures. Neither outlet is cited here as having seen audited financial statements, and no audited filing for the fashion label appears in the available reporting, so the US$200 million number should be read as a reported historical estimate rather than a verified result.
Was Sweetface relaunched?
Not in any way the available reporting documents. The 2009 statement anticipated a reintroduction, and it is possible that plans of this kind were considered, but no source in the material available for this article confirms a Sweetface collection released after the Spring 2009 line. Those looking for a clear end date should treat June 2009 as the point when the company announced a suspension, while acknowledging that the company’s own wording left the future open.

The most recent Lopez-branded fashion project is a footwear collaboration. REVOLVE announced that JLO Jennifer Lopez footwear would debut exclusively on its website on March 16, 2023. The first release had 16 pieces, mainly heels and boots, with announced retail prices between $145 and $200. REVOLVE said Camuto Group developed the footwear.
This collaboration is not a continuation of Sweetface. It was a retailer-exclusive shoe line with a different manufacturer, a different business structure and a different time period, so it should not be counted as evidence that the 2001 apparel brand returned.

Availability changes quickly, and the available information is a snapshot. A REVOLVE product page for the JLO Jennifer Lopez x REVOLVE Beverly Platform Heel showed the style as sold out when it was checked; the page does not establish whether the style has been restocked since. How to read the timeline
- 2001: The J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez women’s clothing line is announced, with Sweetface Fashions as the marketer.
- 2002: Glow by J.Lo launches under a worldwide licence with Coty and Lancaster.
- 2007: JustSweet is described as a more accessible line between the J.Lo and Sweetface labels.
- June 2009: Sweetface announces a suspension of production, with the Spring 2009 collection the last one reported.
- March 2023: The JLO Jennifer Lopez footwear collaboration debuts exclusively at REVOLVE.
What the available evidence does not settle
The available reporting shows what was announced and what the companies said. It does not include the financial records needed to judge why the apparel business stopped, and it does not document every later Lopez-branded retail product. Anyone writing about the business should avoid stating that the line was discontinued for a specific commercial reason unless a company or court source says so.
The clearest accurate summary is this: the 2001 apparel line was marketed through Sweetface Fashions, Sweetface announced a production pause in June 2009 with the possibility of a future return, and Lopez’s later fashion work includes a separate 2023 footwear collaboration.
