WWE’s official 2019 Hall of Fame induction named six members of D-Generation X: Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, X-Pac and Chyna. Chyna died in 2016 and was inducted posthumously. The faction’s history is well documented on WWE’s own pages, but those pages date from the 2019 induction and earlier, so they cannot confirm what each living member is doing in 2026. This article separates the documented DX story from the present-day details that remain unverified.
Who counts as a D-Generation X member
For a clear answer, the six people WWE inducted as D-Generation X in 2019 are the core membership. DX was never a fixed roster, though. WWE’s history describes Shawn Michaels and Triple H as its founders, with Chyna and Rick Rude as early allies, and it names Mike Tyson as a partner in the build-up to WrestleMania XIV. The table below uses the 2019 inductees as the baseline and marks the other figures separately.
| Name | Connection to DX | WWE recognition | Status in WWE’s official material |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shawn Michaels | Co-founder with Triple H; on hiatus after WrestleMania XIV; reunited with Triple H in 2006 | 2019 Hall of Fame inductee as DX | WWE identifies his WrestleMania XXVI loss to The Undertaker as his retirement from the ring; current activity not stated |
| Triple H | Co-founder; took over leadership after Michaels’ hiatus; recruited X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws | 2019 Hall of Fame inductee as DX | Historical role documented; current job not stated |
| Road Dogg | One half of the New Age Outlaws, recruited into expanded DX | 2019 Hall of Fame inductee as DX | Current activity not stated |
| Billy Gunn | The other New Age Outlaws member, recruited into expanded DX | 2019 Hall of Fame inductee as DX | WWE profile lists career achievements; current activity not stated |
| X-Pac | Recruited into expanded DX by Triple H | 2019 Hall of Fame inductee as DX | WWE profile lists championship history; current activity not stated |
| Chyna | Early DX ally | Inducted posthumously in 2019 | Died in 2016, according to WWE’s induction report |
| Rick Rude | Early ally named in WWE’s faction history | Not among the 2019 inductees | Not stated in WWE’s DX material |
Mike Tyson is also named in WWE’s history as a partner in the lead-up to WrestleMania XIV, but he was not a DX member in the sense used for the Hall of Fame group, and he is not among the 2019 inductees.
How the faction evolved
Formation with Michaels and Triple H
WWE traces the group to Shawn Michaels and Triple H, with Chyna and Rick Rude among the early allies. The group’s identity was built around the two of them, and its early members were added around that core rather than arriving as a single six-person unit.

Expansion after Michaels’ hiatus
Michaels went on hiatus after WrestleMania XIV in 1998. Triple H then took leadership of the group and added X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn. This is the lineup most fans picture when they say “DX.” WWE’s history says the group later splintered, and it does not give a single split date in the material available for this article.
The 2006 reunion and tag title run
WWE says Michaels and Triple H reunited under the DX name in 2006. That run included wins of the Unified WWE Tag Team Championships. Michaels’ later in-ring career ended after his WrestleMania XXVI loss to The Undertaker, which WWE identifies as his retirement from the ring.

The 2019 Hall of Fame induction
WWE inducted six members as D-Generation X in 2019: Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, X-Pac and Chyna. WWE’s induction report states that Chyna had passed away in 2016 and was included posthumously. The report describes the other five members as the faction’s representatives at the ceremony. The induction is the official point where WWE formally defines the group’s membership.
