Elvis Presley’s 1962 Lockheed JetStar, registration N440RM, spent decades parked in Roswell, New Mexico, before Jimmy Webb bought it at auction and turned it into a road-going motor home called the “Elvismobile.” The latest specific sighting in the available records is a photograph taken at Lakeland-Linder Regional Airport, Florida, on April 6, 2025—not confirmation of where the vehicle is today.
Which Elvis Presley JetStar is this?
The 1962 aircraft was Lockheed JetStar N440RM, serial number 5016. It is distinct from N777EP, another JetStar associated with Elvis and reported on display at Graceland. The Graceland aircraft is not the N440RM discussed here. The Elvis Presley Museum’s aircraft page identifies N777EP with the Graceland display.
How the 1962 JetStar became the Elvismobile
Elvis bought N440RM in December 1976, according to AOPA’s July 25, 2024, report. After the aircraft sat for decades in Roswell, New Mexico, Webb acquired it at auction. AOPA reported that Webb said he paid $234,000.
Webb joined the JetStar’s fuselage to a 1999 Freightliner motor-home chassis, making a road vehicle he calls the Elvismobile. He drove it 1,659 miles to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in July 2024, according to AOPA. Webb described the conversion as “a road-going vehicle that we can now share with the entire world.”

Why it was converted instead of returned to flight
AOPA reported that the JetStar’s engines had been removed for display in a Tennessee museum. Webb cited noise-compliance issues, unavailable parts, and other problems as reasons it would not fly again, telling AOPA, “There’s just a myriad of lists of why this thing would never fly again.” Those are the owner’s explanations as reported in the interview, not an independent assessment of the aircraft’s airworthiness.
