Thomas Randolph was convicted again in 2023 for conspiring to murder his wife, Sharon Causse, and for the murders of Causse and Michael Miller. He received an aggregate sentence of 720 months to life in prison, and the Supreme Court of Nevada affirmed the retrial judgment on appeal. The court’s opinion does not state which prison facility currently holds him.

What happened after the events covered in The Black Widower?

Randolph’s original conviction was not the final outcome. In 2017, a jury convicted him of conspiring with Miller to kill Causse and of murdering Miller and Causse. The Supreme Court of Nevada later reversed that judgment because the trial court had erroneously admitted propensity evidence and ordered a new trial. That decision was not an acquittal or a finding that the prosecution as a whole was invalid.

At the 2023 retrial, a second jury convicted Randolph of conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of murder with the use of a deadly weapon. The State did not seek the death penalty in that proceeding, so the offenses were not punishable by death at the retrial. The original death sentence did not remain in effect after the first conviction was reversed.

What sentence did Thomas Randolph receive?

The retrial judgment imposed an aggregate sentence of 720 months to life in prison, according to the Supreme Court of Nevada’s opinion in Thomas William Randolph v. State of Nevada, No. 88625. The court affirmed that judgment on direct appeal.

What did the Nevada Supreme Court decide on appeal?

The court considered seven issues and affirmed the retrial judgment. Among its rulings, it rejected Randolph’s speedy-trial argument and upheld the admission of statements he made during a recorded crime-scene walkthrough. The court concluded: “Under the totality of the circumstances, we conclude that Randolph’s participation in the walkthrough and statements therein were voluntary.”

The court’s disposition states: “ORDER the judgment of the district court AFFIRMED.” This confirms the retrial judgment remained in place after direct appeal; it is not a separate finding that the appeal established the underlying facts.

Where is Thomas Randolph now?

The official appellate opinion confirms that Randolph was sentenced to prison but does not identify his current facility. A&E reported Lovelock Correctional Center in an article updated September 29, 2026, but that is secondary reporting, not confirmation in the Nevada Supreme Court opinion or an official corrections record. The facility should therefore be treated as reported, not independently confirmed here.
