Sky News reported that the night raised £1.5 million for Palestinian-led organisations. What the event does not show is that it changed government policy or public opinion. Eno argued that artists can shape the cultural conditions in which politics happens, but that is his argument, and the reporting available does not test it.
What the evening was
Together For Palestine was a single, dated event, not an ongoing campaign or a tour. It was held at OVO Arena Wembley, which is the venue’s current name, and the official event listing describes it as a night of music, reflection and hope. Advance reporting from The Guardian (8 August 2025) described it as bringing British and Palestinian artists together on one bill, with a capacity of 12,500 for the venue.

The structure was deliberately mixed. Post-event coverage from Sky News (18 September 2025) describes a specially composed piece performed by an ensemble that included Damon Albarn, Paul Weller, Adnan Joubran, Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, and Nadine Shah. It also describes Neneh Cherry, Greentea Peng and Bastille’s Dan Smith performing “7 Seconds”, an Annie Lennox performance video with revised lyrics, and readings of poetry and prose, Palestinian art, and speeches. These are the highlights reported by that outlet, not a complete running order.
Who was on the bill
The official listing names the following artists as part of the bill:
#1 Best Overall
- Nirvana- Nevermind
- Brian Eno
- Adnan Joubran
- Faraj Suleiman
- Nai Barghouti
- Damon Albarn
- Bastille
- Cat Burns
- Greentea Peng
- Hot Chip
- James Blake
- Jamie xx
- King Krule
- Mabel
- Obongjayar
- Paloma Faith
- PinkPantheress
- Rachel Chinouriri
- Rina Sawayama
- Riz Ahmed
- Sampha
The mix matters for the activism question. Palestinian artists such as Joubran, Suleiman and Barghouti appear alongside British performers, and the listing’s inclusion of spoken and visual work means the audience encountered Palestinian culture as more than a backdrop to a set of pop acts.
Where the money was meant to go
The official listing states that 100% of the ticket price, excluding additional fees, would be paid to Choose Love for Palestinian-led organisations providing humanitarian relief. The fee exclusion is part of the stated arrangement. The listing does not say that every charge, donation or sponsorship amount was passed on, and nothing in the reporting shows otherwise.

Eno’s case for artists as cultural actors
Eno’s own account, published in The Guardian on 17 September 2025 under the title “Why I’m hosting a concert for Palestine at Wembley Arena”, is the clearest statement of why he thought the event was worth doing. He argues that stories shape how people feel about the world, and that artists have a real capacity to shape the space in which politicians work. In his words, artists “have always helped societies to point out injustice and imagine better futures.”

The event’s stated purpose was partly financial and partly symbolic. Eno said: “But this is about more than just money. It’s about sending a message of love and solidarity to the people of Palestine — that they haven’t been forgotten.”
The Mandela precedent
Eno uses the 1988 Nelson Mandela birthday concert at Wembley as a precedent. He cites a reported broadcast audience of 600 million and argues that the concert helped make Mandela a household name. These are Eno’s claims and his historical comparison. They describe what he believes the earlier concert achieved, and they are not independently established by the reporting on the 2025 event. The comparison is an aspiration about cultural influence, not evidence that Together For Palestine has produced comparable results.

Silence and the cost of speaking
Eno also describes fear of backlash and career consequences as one reason some artists stayed silent, and that account is part of his explanation for organising the night. The available reporting does not measure how widespread that fear is among musicians, so it should be read as Eno’s view of the context, not a documented industry pattern.
Damon Albarn on action and peace
Damon Albarn, quoted in The Guardian’s advance report, framed the event in terms of conduct rather than sentiment: “Pacifism is an action. Peace is an action. To live peacefully requires vision and commitment … I am grateful for this opportunity to act in solidarity with the Palestinian people.” His comment is useful because it places the concert inside a broader argument that solidarity has to be practised, not just expressed.

What the concert shows, and what it does not
The concert is a concrete example of how music activism can be organised. It convened artists across national and generational lines, gave Palestinian artists and cultural work a prominent place, combined performance with testimony, and directed ticket revenue toward humanitarian aid. Those are features of the event’s design, and the reporting documents them.
The same reporting sets clear limits on what can be claimed:
- It documents the event, its stated purpose, and a reported fundraising figure.
- It does not show that the concert changed government policy.
- It does not show a measurable change in public opinion.
- It does not establish how much of the £1.5 million reported by Sky News was ultimately distributed, or to whom in full.
Any assessment of the event’s effect therefore depends on later evidence, such as published accounts from the named recipient organisations or independent polling, which was not part of the reporting reviewed here.
A framework for comparing benefit concerts
If you want to compare this event with other benefit concerts or activist performances, the reporting supports four descriptive axes. None of them yields a common measure of impact, so they are best used to describe how an event is built rather than to rank it.

| Audience reach | Venue capacity, broadcast or livestream plans, reported attendance | Capacity is not attendance; reach beyond the venue needs separate evidence |

Takeaways
- Together For Palestine was a specific, dated Wembley benefit, not an ongoing campaign or a current ticket opportunity.
- Its stated fundraising route was ticket revenue, excluding additional fees, paid to Choose Love for Palestinian-led humanitarian organisations.
- Sky News reported £1.5 million raised and named several intended recipients.
- The bill paired Palestinian and British artists and included spoken, visual and testimonial work alongside music.
- Eno’s argument that artists can shape political culture, and his Mandela comparison, are his own case rather than findings from the event.
- The concert shows how music activism can be organised. It does not, on the available reporting, show that it changed policy or opinion.
