For a Valentine’s Day game night, choose based on the kind of time you want together: It Takes Two for a story-led two-player adventure, Unravel Two for local cooperative puzzles, Portal 2 for communication-heavy challenges, or Stardew Valley for a relaxed, open-ended session. If you’re playing online, Split Fiction is another narrative adventure, and EA’s Friend’s Pass may let one player join without buying a second copy. Check that the edition you choose supports your platform and preferred play mode.

Best for a story you play together
It Takes Two: a two-player campaign with a relationship theme
Electronic Arts describes It Takes Two as built for two, with couch and online co-op. Its protagonists, Cody and May, are a couple working through relationship difficulties, making the premise an obvious thematic match for Valentine’s Day—but not necessarily a light or romantic one. If you’d rather avoid a story centered on a troubled relationship, choose a different game on this list. EA’s features page explains the co-op setup and Friend’s Pass.
For online play, EA says one player must own the full game for a guest to join through Friend’s Pass. Account, installation, internet, and platform conditions apply, so check EA’s current requirements before planning the session.

Split Fiction: science fiction and fantasy in one adventure
In Split Fiction, writers Mio and Zoe are pulled into the worlds of their own stories and have to work together. The changing imaginative settings make it a good choice if you want an authored adventure rather than a game built around a repeating daily routine. EA announced its launch for March 6, 2025, and advertises Friend’s Pass; one player must own the full game, and the guest must meet EA’s stated setup requirements. Check EA’s Split Fiction page for the current details.
Best for puzzles and teamwork
Unravel Two: cooperative platforming with a softer look
Unravel Two pairs two Yarnys—small characters made of yarn—in a local cooperative puzzle-platformer. PlayStation says players can create their own Yarny and play together locally, or play alone. Its soft visual style may feel inviting, but the platforming and challenges still ask you to coordinate. The U.S. PS4 product page lists June 9, 2018, as its release date; see PlayStation’s game page for that edition’s details.
Portal 2: communication-first physics puzzles
The two-player test-chamber campaign in Portal 2 is a strong fit for couples who enjoy talking through a problem and experimenting until a solution clicks. Its puzzles reward coordination, while its dark humor gives the adventure a different tone from a conventional romantic game. GameSpot includes it among its recommendations for couples; check your platform’s current listing to confirm the multiplayer mode available in the edition you plan to play. GameSpot’s couples guide discusses the co-op campaign.

Best for a relaxed evening—or a hectic one
Stardew Valley: an open-ended, low-pressure session
If you want to settle into a game without racing through a fixed campaign, Stardew Valley offers a more open-ended way to spend time together. GameSpot highlights its laid-back date-night appeal and in-game relationship activities. Multiplayer and local-play options can vary by platform, so verify support for the exact edition you own or plan to use. GameSpot’s couples guide covers its date-night appeal.
