Two days in Taipei are enough for a brisk introduction to central landmarks, older neighborhoods and a night market—but not enough to see the whole Taipei region at a relaxed pace. A workable weekend keeps both days in the city and treats any day trip as a tradeoff, not an extra stop.
What can you do in Taipei in a weekend?
This two-day outline balances major sights with time in distinct neighborhoods. It is a framework, not a timed tour: transit, queues, weather and how long you want to linger can all change the pace.
Day 1: Memorial Hall, lunch and a choice of afternoon sight
- Morning: Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Start with this central landmark, leaving room to explore the grounds.
- Lunch: Yongkang Street. Make this your meal stop rather than trying to fit several distant restaurants into the day.
- Afternoon: choose one substantial visit. Pick the National Palace Museum for an indoor museum visit, or choose an outdoor skyline viewpoint. Trying to do both can make an already full day feel rushed.
- Evening: a night market. One suggested route pairs sunset at Elephant Mountain with Raohe Night Market. Choose this outdoor-and-evening combination if you want a viewpoint; otherwise, keep the afternoon sight you selected and head to a night market.
Day 2: Temple, historic streets and Ximending
- Begin at Longshan Temple.
- Walk through nearby Bopiliao. This adds a historic-neighborhood stop without turning the morning into a cross-city itinerary.
- Spend the afternoon in Ximending. Leave time to browse and take a break rather than treating the district as a quick photo stop.
- Choose dinner and dessert in town. Keep the final meal flexible to suit where the day ends and your appetite.
Is two days enough in Taipei?
It is enough for a compact selection of central sights and neighborhoods, but expect a full schedule and some choices. An out-of-city excursion takes time directly away from the city itinerary. If a visit to Beitou or Tamsui matters to you, consider adding a third day rather than squeezing it into this plan.
Getting from Taoyuan International Airport
The Taoyuan Airport MRT is a direct rail option between Taipei Main Station and the airport. Taoyuan Tourism lists the express journey as 35 minutes from Taipei Main Station to Terminal 1 and 39 minutes to Terminal 2. Listed express service operates from 06:00 to 23:00, every 15–30 minutes. Commuter trains are listed from 06:00 to 23:00 every 15 minutes, taking 49 minutes from A1 to A12. In-town check-in at Taipei Main Station
The same tourism page lists the A1 in-town check-in counter as operating 06:00–21:30. For eligible airlines, same-day check-in must be completed at least three hours before flight departure; airline availability varies. Choose by the network you expect to use and whether attraction admission is useful—not just by the number of days printed on the pass. Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation’s pass page, updated or reviewed on 2026-02-01, distinguishes these products:

Plan the weekend around your pace
- For a first visit: Follow the central-sights and neighborhood split, and accept that this is a selection rather than a complete tour of Taipei.
- For a museum-focused day: Choose the National Palace Museum over the outdoor viewpoint; the afternoon is a real either-or, not a promise that both fit comfortably.
- For more breathing room: Add a day before considering an excursion beyond the city. Beitou or Tamsui are possibilities for an added half-day, not necessary detours on this two-day schedule.
- For airport planning: Treat published train hours as service information to verify before travel, not a guarantee against disruptions.
