Watson season 1, episode 9, “Take a Family History,” delivers a significant reveal about Ingrid and Moriarty’s hold over her. That is not the same as resolving the series-wide mystery surrounding Sherlock Holmes: the available episode descriptions and recap do not establish that it does.
What happens in “Take a Family History”?
CBS lists “Take a Family History” as season 1, episode 9, and gives its air date as April 13, 2025. The official synopsis sets up two personal threads: Ingrid’s secrets catch up with her when her sister Gigi needs treatment after complications from secret treatments Ingrid put her through, and Watson and Mary bond over a tragedy. CBS’s episode page provides the official setup.
A contemporaneous recap by Megan Vick at Telly Visions adds that Gigi is admitted after pain in her arms and describes Ingrid trying to conceal both their sisterhood and Gigi’s involvement in a spinal study. The recap identifies the closing reveal as explaining Ingrid’s lake visits and the leverage Moriarty has over her. Its detailed ending discussion is subscriber-only, so it does not provide enough accessible detail to reconstruct exactly what the episode reveals. Read the Telly Visions recap.
What does episode 9 reveal about Ingrid?
The documented reveal is centered on Ingrid: it connects her visits to the lake with Moriarty’s leverage over her. That shifts the episode’s personal mystery from the fact that she is hiding something to the reason those choices and secrets are tied to Moriarty. The accessible recap establishes the nature of that turn, but not its full explanation; going further would mean inventing specifics the source does not confirm.

Does the episode solve the Sherlock Holmes mystery?
Not on the evidence available. CBS describes the broader premise as Watson continuing his medical career after Sherlock Holmes’s death at Moriarty’s hands, while the official synopsis for episode 9 focuses on Ingrid, Gigi, and Watson and Mary. Neither CBS listing nor the accessible recap says the episode answers the series-wide question about Holmes. The headline’s claim that the show has revealed answers to its “best mystery” should therefore be read as a thesis about the Ingrid storyline, not as confirmation that the Holmes mystery is resolved. CBS’s season 1 episode guide gives the series premise and episode listing.
Is the Ingrid reveal earned, and does it move the larger story forward?
The available descriptions establish what the reveal concerns, but they are not enough to judge whether earlier clues make it feel earned, how fully it changes the audience’s understanding of Ingrid, or whether it meaningfully advances the Moriarty plot. Those are the right measures for a critical review, but answering them requires assessing the episode itself rather than inferring quality from a synopsis or a recap whose ending is not accessible.
