How “Azul” fits into Colores
Apple Music lists “Azul” on Colores, released March 19, 2020. In the album’s track-by-track notes, J Balvin said his team chose a color for each song by naming the color it brought to mind: “We closed our eyes as a work team and the color blue prevailed.” He described the track as a refreshing song about a woman who lives independently and cannot be controlled. The album’s visual direction
On the album’s anniversary, J Balvin’s official site described Colores as ten tracks associated with ten colors. It credits artist Takashi Murakami with shaping the album’s flowers, color palette, and visual direction, and says Tilley directed all of the album’s music videos using visual effects, camera work, and storytelling. Animated video vs. live performance
The two videos are distinct releases. Sounds and Colours reported on the separate Vevo live-performance video on April 1, 2020. Universal Music Brasil’s announcement for the animated clip followed on June 12, 2020. Those dates describe different videos and source events; the June announcement does not establish a platform-by-platform premiere time for the animated version.
