Wanda Maximoff’s return has not been confirmed in the official material reviewed. Disney’s current Avengers: Doomsday page lists the film for December 18, 2026, and names an ensemble cast that does not include Elizabeth Olsen. That omission does not rule out a later casting reveal, and it says nothing definitive about Avengers: Secret Wars. “Mutant Saga,” meanwhile, is reported planning language—not an officially announced name for a new MCU era.
Is Wanda in Avengers: Doomsday?
There is no official confirmation in the material reviewed that Wanda Maximoff will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Disney’s current film page lists the announced cast without Elizabeth Olsen or Wanda. A cast-page omission is not proof that a performer will not appear: it establishes only that she is not named on that page at present.
In March 2025, Olsen discussed plans to return to the United States rather than travel to the UK for the Avengers production, according to MeriStation’s report. Those comments were about her plans at that time. They do not establish the final cast of a film now listed for December 2026, nor do they confirm or rule out a role in either Avengers film.
Disney’s current page describes heroes from three distinct universes on a collision course around an existential threat. That premise may encourage speculation about familiar characters, but it is not evidence that Wanda is among them.

Will Scarlet Witch return in Secret Wars?
The reviewed official material does not confirm Wanda for Avengers: Secret Wars either. Keep the two films separate when evaluating casting claims: the omission of Olsen from Disney’s Doomsday page is evidence about what that page currently announces for Doomsday, not a cast announcement for Secret Wars.
Disney announced in March 2025 that Anthony and Joe Russo would direct both films. The announcement also said Robert Downey Jr. would return in a new role as Victor von Doom—not Tony Stark. These production details do not establish Wanda’s involvement. See Disney’s announcement.

What are the current release dates?
Disney’s current official Doomsday page lists a theatrical release date of December 18, 2026. Earlier dates should not be mistaken for the current listing: Disney’s March 2025 announcement gave May 1, 2026, while Marvel Japan’s July 31, 2024 report placed Doomsday in May 2026 and Secret Wars in May 2027. Those are historical schedule announcements, not the current Doomsday date. The reviewed sources do not establish a current release date for Secret Wars.
What does “Mutant Saga” mean?
“Mutant Saga” is a useful shorthand for reported Marvel planning, but it is not an officially established MCU era name in the official sources reviewed. A 2026 GamesRadar report attributes to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige the question, “how do we plan the ‘mutant saga’ in a very grand way?” The report also describes X-Men as central to a future universe.

That reported phrasing signals a direction under discussion; it is not the same as Marvel formally naming a new saga or announcing a complete slate. Treat “Mutant Saga” as reported language unless Marvel officially adopts it.

- Source: An official Marvel or Disney announcement is different from anonymous speculation or an unsourced social post.
- Date: Casting and schedules can change; an old production comment cannot settle a later announcement.
- Film: Check whether the claim concerns Doomsday or Secret Wars. Evidence about one does not automatically apply to the other.
- Certainty: Separate a confirmed cast listing from a reported remark, an inference based on the story premise, or a rumor.
If exploring the comics, Secret Wars (2015) can offer background on the published comic story. It is not required film pre-reading, and the existence of a comic storyline does not confirm that the MCU films will adapt it.
