Warner Bros. Discovery’s Adult Swim Games removals unfolded in several reported rounds during 2024—not as one sweep of every game ever associated with Adult Swim. If you already own a retired game on Steam, Valve says it remains in your library and can still be downloaded, installed, and launched. What can disappear is its availability for new purchases and some of the accumulated material tied to its original store page.
What happened, and when?
Reports described a series of planned or completed removals, with different titles and circumstances in each round. The distinction matters: a game associated historically with Adult Swim was not necessarily still published by Adult Swim Games, and the events did not establish that the entire catalog was removed.
| Date and report | Titles or reported scope | What was reported |
|---|---|---|
| March 8, 2024 — Ars Technica | At least 16 games Warner Bros. Discovery appeared set to remove. The article also described discrepancies among catalog counts: 16 games and soundtrack purchases in a Steam bundle, 18 Steam games still published by Adult Swim Games according to Delisted Games, and six games under other publishers. | Developers had received retirement notices. Some who asked to have their Steam publisher accounts transferred said their requests were refused. The counts are figures reported in March 2024, not a current catalog. |
| July 2024 — PCGamesN | Super House of Dead Ninjas, Mega Coin Squad, Zenzizenzic, and Traverser. | The report said delisting was scheduled for July 15. The store notice read: “Adult Swim is no longer able to continue as publisher for this game and the developer is not available to take over as publisher at this time.” PCGamesN also reported that some developers had recovered publishing rights or kept games listed; Duck Game was one title that stayed on Steam. |
| December 2024 — PC Gamer | Six Cartoon Network games removed from digital platforms; Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time was identified as published by Adult Swim Games. | This was a separate removal round, not proof that all the titles were part of the earlier Steam action. PC Gamer said the store notice gave no reason for the December removals. |
Will a game you already own still work?
Valve’s Steamworks retirement documentation says retiring a game removes it from Steam store listings but leaves it in existing owners’ libraries. Those owners can continue to download, install, and launch it, and the Steam Community remains visible and usable. The store page remains accessible even though the game is no longer listed for purchase.
That policy does not promise that every part of a game will work indefinitely. Multiplayer, online progression, or other connected features may rely on a publisher’s servers or services, whose availability is separate from whether Steam retains the game in your library. Valve also says Steam keys should no longer be sold once a title is no longer listed on Steam.

Why developers objected to losing the original listing
A new store listing is not necessarily a replacement for the original page and its history. In Ars Technica’s March report, Soundodger+ developer Michael Molinari said he asked for the listing to be transferred and was refused. He reported that the representative cited “logistical and resource constraints” and “the limited capacity of our team.” Molinari also said he was told he could republish the game without its community content, reviews, patch notes, or other accumulated material, and that Adult Swim references would need to be removed.
Those are Molinari’s reported account of his case, not a published universal rule for every developer. His description of a transfer taking “literally three clicks” reflects his view of the process; it does not establish that every transfer has the same administrative circumstances.

Fist Puncher developer Matt Kain, also quoted by Ars, said a lost listing could mean losing more than a decade of discussions, screenshots, gameplay videos, leaderboards, player progress, unlocked characters, achievements, and trading cards. Kain wrote that the transfer process “literally takes a minute to initiate” and said a representative told him the company had made a universal decision not to transfer games to their original creators. His account illustrates why simply republishing a game may not preserve the community and history attached to its old page.
What is known about the reason?
The reports document retirement notices, developers’ accounts of transfer requests, and references to limited team capacity or business changes. They do not establish one definitive corporate motive that explains every title and every removal round. Ars said it had contacted Warner Bros. Discovery but had not received a response by publication. For the separate December 2024 Cartoon Network removals, PC Gamer reported that no reason appeared in the store notice. Claims that all the removals were for a specific financial or legal reason are not supported by these reports.

How to interpret the story as a player
- Already own the Steam version? Valve’s retirement policy says it stays in your library and remains downloadable, installable, and launchable.
- Want to buy a title? Delisting means it is removed from Steam store listings, so purchase availability may change. The 2024 reports are historical; check the individual store page for present availability.
- Rely on online features? Library access does not guarantee that a game’s own servers or services will remain available.
- See an Adult Swim association? Check the specific title and publisher. Some games remained listed or appeared under other publishers, and the reported rounds affected different sets of games.
A Reddit post phrased the buying question as “SIB Any of these soon-to-be-delisted Adult Swim games?” That is one example of how a player framed the issue, not evidence of how common the concern was. The practical answer depends on whether you want to purchase a particular game and whether you depend on its online services; existing Steam ownership is treated differently from new store availability.
