Warner Bros. Discovery announced Rooster Teeth’s shutdown on March 6, 2024. RWBY later moved to VIZ Media, which announced in July 2026 that RWBY Volume 10 was greenlit and in production. gen:LOCK’s later ownership and continuation status are not established by the available reporting.
Why did Rooster Teeth shut down?
Rooster Teeth general manager Jordan Levin told employees on March 6, 2024, that the studio was closing. In a statement reported by the Los Angeles Times, Levin cited “challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.” That was management’s explanation for the decision, not an independently established analysis of its causes.

What happened to RWBY after Rooster Teeth closed?
VIZ Media announced on July 5, 2024, that it had acquired RWBY. The company described the series as created by Monty Oum and produced by Rooster Teeth, and noted that it had worked with Rooster Teeth on RWBY publishing since 2016. In a July 2024 FAQ, VIZ said it was exploring production of new chapters in the RWBY saga, while noting there was then no news of a new season. That was a status update at the time, not the current production position: on July 4, 2026, VIZ announced that RWBY Volume 10 was greenlit and in production. See the 2024 FAQ and 2026 announcement.
VIZ’s acquisition announcement reported more than 350 million global RWBY views across platforms and an average of more than 7 million views per episode. Those are figures published by VIZ, the acquiring publisher, rather than independently audited figures established by the cited material.

What happened to gen:LOCK?
gen:LOCK was among the properties whose sale was reportedly under discussion in March 2024. The cited contemporaneous report does not establish a later buyer, a transfer of rights, a revival, or a definitive continuation plan for the series. RWBY’s move to VIZ does not establish gen:LOCK’s fate.
Where can you watch RWBY?
Availability depends on date and country. In a July 2025 update, VIZ said all nine existing volumes were streaming on Hulu and described digital purchase options, including Amazon Prime Video in the United States, as well as other services and regional options. Because streaming catalogs and geographic access change, check the relevant service for your location. VIZ’s dated update is at Where to Watch RWBY.
