“Piece of Me would have been my video!” Samantha Jade recalled years later. In an account reported by PerthNow in 2024, the Australian singer said she was told to prepare for a shoot, then received a last-minute call telling her not to come. She never filmed a version of Britney Spears’ video; Jade said she believed the prepared set might have been used for her own song instead.
What Samantha Jade says happened
PerthNow reported on November 29, 2024, that Jade told the story on Nova’s The Jermaine Plane, hosted by Jermaine D’Vauz. Jade recalled that her mother received a call saying she needed to get ready that night. Hair, makeup and choreography were arranged, and a car was due to pick her up.
Then, Jade said, another call came: she should not come. The following day, she and her mother saw a celebrity-watch segment showing Jade alongside Spears and suggesting that bosses had pitted the singers against each other. Jade described the apparent feud as an odd result of the situation, not confirmation of a real personal rivalry. PerthNow’s report recounts her version of events.
Was Jade really going to replace Britney Spears?
Jade’s recollection was that Spears was not at the “Piece of Me” set and that Jive had the set, dancers, hair and makeup ready. She thought the label might have put her into that setup because her own song was due around the same time. Her exclamation that “Piece of Me would have been my video!” captures what she believed might have happened—not proof that Spears’ video was formally reassigned.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Entertainment reports from 2007 also circulated a threatened-substitution story. Extra attributed its account to the New York Post, while AceShowbiz used unnamed sourcing. Those reports show that the story was being reported at the time, but they do not independently establish Jive’s internal plans or the precise sequence of events. The much-repeated claim of a 12-hour delay should therefore be treated as an allegation in contemporaneous reporting, not a confirmed fact. Extra’s December 4, 2007 coverage and AceShowbiz’s December 5, 2007 report are secondary accounts.
The song Jade thought might use the set
According to PerthNow, Jade connected the possible alternate shoot to “Eyes On Me,” a song written by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and produced by Timbaland. The report says the song was never released. That detail helps explain Jade’s theory about why she might have been called in, but it does not establish that a finished video was planned or that the song was officially substituted for Spears’ track.
