Celebrity Net Worth estimates Voletta Wallace’s net worth at $20 million at the time of her death. That figure is a third-party estimate, not a publicly documented accounting of her assets and debts, and it could not be independently verified in the available sources. Court records establish that Wallace had an interest in a company connected to her son’s legacy, but they do not state the total value of her personal estate.
What was Voletta Wallace’s net worth when she died?
The commonly cited figure is $20 million, an estimate published by Celebrity Net Worth. It should be treated as an estimate rather than a confirmed balance: the sources available do not provide a public inventory of Wallace’s assets and liabilities that verifies the number. The estimate is reported as of her death; it is not a current valuation of the business associated with her son.
Voletta Wallace died on February 21, 2025, at age 78, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The coroner attributed her death to natural causes, according to the Associated Press.
Why Biggie’s catalog value is not Wallace’s net worth
Christopher Wallace’s music, name, image, and related intellectual-property rights are not interchangeable with his mother’s personal wealth. The rights may be held, managed, or shared through separate entities and agreements. A company’s valuation, a catalog transaction, a beneficiary’s interest, and an individual’s net worth describe different things.

What the court record establishes
A Delaware Court of Chancery memorandum opinion dated August 7, 2026, concerns Wayne Barrow, trustee of the Voletta Wallace Revocable Trust, and Faith Evans and Notorious B.I.G., LLC. The opinion recounts that Wallace created the trust in 2020 and amended it on February 6, 2025, removing C.J. Wallace and Carol Sampson as successor trustees and leaving Barrow as trustee. It also says her will left her estate to the trust.
The dispute before the Delaware court was whether the trust qualified as a member of Notorious B.I.G., LLC and could receive distributions. The court decided that membership issue in favor of the trust under the company’s operating agreement. That decision clarifies a company interest and related legal rights; it does not publish a total value for Wallace’s personal estate. A separate Pennsylvania challenge to changes in her estate planning is a distinct legal matter.
What the company filing and reported transaction mean
In a 2021 federal filing, Notorious B.I.G., LLC described its role as holding and protecting intellectual property associated with Christopher Wallace, including licensing trademark, sponsorship, association, and publicity rights. That filing presents the company’s position in litigation; it is not an appraisal of Voletta Wallace’s personal assets.
Celebrity Net Worth has also reported a Primary Wave transaction involving a 50% interest in Biggie-related publishing, recordings, and name, image, and likeness rights. Its account describes an overall valuation above $200 million while noting that the precise purchase price was not publicly disclosed. This is secondary reporting about rights associated with Christopher Wallace, not a confirmed cash payment to Voletta Wallace or proof of her personal net worth.

What Biggie’s album sales do—and do not—show
Album sales help explain the scale of Christopher Wallace’s cultural and commercial legacy, but sales certifications are not a statement of royalties, company revenue, or his mother’s wealth. The Associated Press reported that Ready to Die had sold over six million units as of 2018, citing the Recording Industry Association of America, and that Life After Death had sold more than 11 million units in its 2025 report. Neither figure establishes what Wallace personally owned or received.
Voletta Wallace’s role in preserving her son’s legacy
Wallace became a public protector of her son’s legacy after his death, despite describing herself as a private person. “They never knew me. The public never knew me. I was thrust into this environment, I should say, after he passed away, because I’m a very private person. Extremely private,” she told the Associated Press.

She established the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation and worked as an executive producer on the 2021 Netflix documentary Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell, according to AP. Speaking about the foundation, she said: “It is our way of saying, ‘Keep your head up,’” and added, “It’s the foundation’s way just to let these parents know that we love them.”

- $20 million: Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate of Voletta Wallace’s personal net worth at the time of her death; not verified by a published accounting of her assets and liabilities.
- Above $200 million: A reported overall valuation tied to Biggie-related rights in coverage of the Primary Wave transaction; not a verified personal valuation or payment to Wallace.
- Trust membership: A legal status the Delaware court recognized under the company operating agreement; the ruling does not give the personal estate’s total value.
These figures answer different questions. The public record reviewed identifies a trust, a company interest, and reported rights transactions, but it does not establish a definitive personal net-worth total for Voletta Wallace.
