In early November 2024, Violet Affleck, the daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, took a selfie with Lynda Lopez, Jennifer Lopez’s sister, during Lynda’s visit to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Lynda then shared the photo on Instagram with other pictures from the campus visit. The details below come from entertainment outlets that reported on the post, not from the post itself.
What happened
Lynda Lopez visited Violet Affleck at Yale. Coverage describes the encounter as a casual campus outing, and the photo that drew attention is a selfie that Violet took and Lynda later posted. Glamour and Marie Claire both report that Violet is the person who took the picture. The reports do not describe the length of the visit, what the two did together, or whether anyone else was present.
The caption and the other photos
According to Glamour and TMZ, Lynda’s caption read: “New Haven with my favorite Yalie! 💙.” The post also included additional photographs from the visit. The reporting does not describe those other images in detail, and no coverage reproduces them beyond the selfie.
Dates and how the outlets differ
The Instagram post is dated November 3, 2024 in Marie Claire’s account. Glamour’s article is dated November 4, 2024, and TMZ also published on November 4, 2024. The three outlets therefore agree on the event but do not agree on every detail, so it helps to read them side by side.

Because none of these outlets reproduces the original Instagram post directly in the reporting available, the caption and the attribution of the selfie should be read as what these outlets reported, not as independently checked against Lynda’s account.

What the reports do not establish
- Private motives. The coverage describes a public visit and post, not the reasons behind it.
- The current state of the families’ relationships. A single campus photo does not show whether the families are close or distant.
- Any further contact between Violet and Lynda after the visit.
Readers who want to check the story should start with the three linked articles above, each of which is an entertainment report rather than a statement from either party.
How to read celebrity social-media stories like this one
- Check the date of the original post against the date of the article. Outlets often publish a day or more after a post goes up.
- Note who is credited with taking a photo. A selfie shared by someone else may be attributed differently across outlets.
- Treat captions as quoted material. Confirm the wording against more than one outlet before repeating it.
- Be cautious about conclusions drawn from a single image, especially about relationships between families.
