What is the federal investigation about, and has McMahon been charged?
TKO Group Holdings reported in an SEC filing that federal law-enforcement agents executed a search warrant and served McMahon with a federal grand jury subpoena on July 17, 2023. That filing documents an investigative step; it does not explain the full scope of the inquiry or say whether it remains active.
As of October 8, 2026, the reviewed official disclosures do not establish whether prosecutors filed criminal charges against McMahon or whether the investigation was closed. It would therefore be inaccurate to report either that he has been charged or that the investigation is over based on these filings.
What happened to Janel Grant’s federal lawsuit?
Grant filed a federal civil complaint on January 25, 2024, against McMahon, WWE and John Laurinaitis. Her complaint alleges that McMahon sexually assaulted and trafficked her, and that WWE and Laurinaitis were involved in conduct giving rise to claims under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. Those are allegations in a civil complaint, not findings that a court established to be true.

TKO reported that Grant, WWE and McMahon agreed in July 2026 to arbitrate their dispute. Grant filed a stipulation of voluntary dismissal with prejudice on July 24, 2026. The filing preserves the parties’ rights to pursue claims and defenses in arbitration.
What “dismissed with prejudice” means here
The phrase describes the federal court action: that case will not continue there as filed. In this instance, it does not mean the dispute was decided on its merits or that the parties gave up their arbitration rights. The dismissal expressly leaves those rights intact.

Arbitration moves the dispute out of the federal court case. Court proceedings and filings are generally more accessible to the public than arbitration, but the cited disclosures do not establish what information from this arbitration will become public or what its outcome will be.

What was the SEC matter about?
On January 10, 2025, the SEC settled charges against McMahon concerning undisclosed settlement agreements and related accounting-control failures. TKO’s filing described misstatements in WWE’s 2018 and 2021 financial statements in connection with those failures.

This was a separate regulatory matter about disclosures and accounting controls. It was not a criminal charge for sexual assault and did not determine whether Grant’s allegations were true.
Is there another lawsuit involving McMahon?
Yes. TKO reported that unnamed plaintiffs filed a separate Maryland lawsuit in October 2024 against McMahon, Linda McMahon, WWE and TKO, involving allegations concerning a former ring announcer in the 1980s. The Maryland case is distinct from Grant’s complaint and from the federal criminal investigation.

According to TKO’s disclosure, a court in December 2025 dismissed one plaintiff’s claims and some claims against Linda McMahon, but otherwise denied motions to dismiss. Constitutional briefing continued through July 2026. These procedural rulings do not establish the truth of the underlying allegations.

TKO reported that WWE’s board formed a special committee in June 2022 to investigate alleged misconduct by then-CEO McMahon, and that the committee’s investigation was complete. TKO also said McMahon resigned in January 2024 from his executive chair and board roles, as well as other roles at TKO and its subsidiaries. These are company disclosures about its internal process and his roles, not findings on the federal investigation or Grant’s allegations.

What is established—and what remains unknown?
- Established in TKO’s disclosures: a federal search warrant was executed and a grand jury subpoena was served on McMahon on July 17, 2023.
- Established about Grant’s court case: it was dismissed from federal court on July 24, 2026, after an agreement to arbitrate that preserved the parties’ arbitration rights.
- Not established by the reviewed official filings: whether the criminal investigation remains open, whether it concluded, or whether criminal charges were filed.
- Not decided by the dismissal: the merits of Grant’s allegations, which were allegations in her complaint.
