What is Jen Houston’s “Crime After Crime”?
“Crime After Crime” is a political parody performed by Houston. Scroll identified the video on October 27, 2019, and described it as taking off from Lauper’s “Time After Time” (Scroll).
A January 9, 2020 commentary in the New Pittsburgh Courier credits Houston as the singer and Elliott Stein as the writer of the words. It describes the song as using the familiar “Time After Time” melody (New Pittsburgh Courier).
What does the parody say?
The lyrics make political allegations about Trump. The Courier summarizes some of those allegations and describes a closing image in which a figure it calls “45” sits as a prison door closes. These are descriptions of the parody’s content, not independent verification of the claims in its lyrics.

How it differs from Houston’s “Pathological Liar”
Houston discussed “Crime After Crime” in a BroadwayWorld interview published October 28, 2020. She said friends of friends brought her the idea, naming Elliott Stein. In the same interview, she described “Pathological Liar” as a separate, later parody based on Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” which she co-wrote with Randy Bierman (BroadwayWorld).
Houston said, “And yes, I believe this is my eighth political parody song for NowThis.” That was her recollection in the 2020 interview. A view figure mentioned in that interview concerns “Pathological Liar,” not “Crime After Crime,” and should not be attributed to this video.
