Vera Wang’s late-May 2024 Instagram photos showed the fashion designer, then 74, poolside in a white one-piece swimsuit and sunglasses. The images drew admiring comments and discussion about ageism, though the coverage does not provide a measured view count or other figure that would independently establish how widely the post spread.
What was in Vera Wang’s swimsuit post?
Wang shared a series of poolside photos on Instagram around May 27–28, 2024. The date varies by outlet: Women’s Health dates the post to May 27, while NewBeauty and The Independent describe it as posted May 28.
Coverage describes Wang wearing a white one-piece swimsuit with sunglasses and other accessories. Her caption read, “My SLIM AARONS moment …Happy Summer!” Slim Aarons was the photographer she referenced.
How did fans and other commenters react?
Some commenters praised Wang’s appearance. Women’s Health reported reactions including “Teach me your ways, V,” “Looking amazing like always,” and “Vera is goals.” These are examples quoted by outlets, not a tally of audience opinion.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Other responses pushed back against treating “aging backward” as a compliment. The Independent reported users arguing that such language can stigmatize visible aging. The conversation therefore included both admiration and criticism of the beauty standards behind age-focused praise.
NewBeauty reported that Wang had 915,000 Instagram followers when its May 29, 2024 article was published. That dated follower count is not a measure of how many people saw or shared this particular post. The coverage does not give a verified reach or view count, so “viral” is best understood as a description of the attention the photos received, not a quantified threshold.

Why is Wang’s “I was totally shocked” quote often mentioned?
Wang’s remark about being surprised by a photo’s attention refers to a different image: one in which she wore a sports bra or workout top. It should not be confused with the May 2024 swimsuit post. In an interview reported by CNA Lifestyle/8days, she said, “I was totally shocked.”
She explained that the earlier photo was intended to feature her crystal hair clips: “To be perfectly honest, the real goal of that picture was [to feature] the hair clips I had in my hair.” She added that the clips did not show up well in a picture, so the outfit was minimized, and said it was surprising that the attention centered on her Palm Angels workout top.

What has Wang said about her routine and aging?
When asked about her routine, Wang gave a personal answer: “Work, sleep, a vodka cocktail, not much sun.” The Independent also quoted her saying, “I value having a vodka cocktail at the end of the day. Because it helps me to transition from a very intense work schedule to a bit of a private life.”
She has also spoken about continuing to grow: “You have to try and continue to grow in one way or another.” These comments describe Wang’s own perspective; the cited coverage does not establish that any particular habit caused her appearance or makes it a general anti-aging method.
