Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother won the Golden Lion at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. This scorecard covers the 21-film Venezia 82 competition and records its official jury awards—not critic ratings or a numerical ranking of every film. The festival ran on the Lido di Venezia from 27 August to 6 September 2025.
What this scorecard covers
La Biennale di Venezia organized the 82nd festival, which screened films in their original languages with Italian and English subtitles. The programme included several sections; the table below is limited to the Venezia 82 feature-film competition. Its awards are jury decisions, not review-score averages, and the order of prizes should not be read as a ranking of all 21 films.
The festival describes Venezia 82 as an international competition of up to 21 feature films presented as world premieres. The awards announcement says the jury viewed 21 competition films. The jury was chaired by Alexander Payne.

Why other festival awards should not be added to this table
Venice’s sections have different purposes and separate awards, so combining their winners with Venezia 82 would mix unlike selections. Orizzonti emphasizes aesthetic and expressive trends, including debut work, emerging talent, independent features and lesser-known cinema. Its jury screened 19 feature-length films and 14 short films, according to the festival’s awards announcement.
- Venezia Spotlight brings together works across genres, with an emphasis on creative originality and their relationship with audiences.
- Venice Classics presents restorations and documentaries about cinema.
- Venice Immersive covers immersive work such as VR, MR, AR, XR, installations and virtual worlds; its jury viewed 30 competition projects, according to the festival.
- Out of Competition and Biennale College Cinema are also part of the festival programme, but are not interchangeable with the main competition.
The festival also awards a debut-film prize. These awards belong to their respective sections or competitions, rather than to the Venezia 82 feature-film award list above.
How to make a fair movie scorecard
The official lineup and awards establish what screened and what the juries selected; they do not provide critic ratings or an editorial scoring rubric. A reader-facing scorecard that adds numerical ratings should disclose its own criteria and apply them consistently to films within the same section.
Rank #2
- Direction and formal control
- Writing and narrative construction
- Performances
- Visual and sound craft
- Emotional or intellectual effect
- Overall recommendation, kept separate from the numerical total
Without a defensible viewing or review basis for an individual film, leave its quality score unassigned and report official awards only as context. Do not infer a film’s rating from the prize it won.
