She said they told her they would develop a third Wonder Woman movie with her, and that she had been assured she was valued as Wonder Woman. Her account is a recollection of a private conversation, not a public announcement that a film was greenlit.

Variety’s 2026 report also revisited the conflicting picture from 2023. At the time, Gadot said she understood that the new leadership would develop the film with her. But Variety cited sources close to the situation who said Wonder Woman 3 was not in development, and that nothing had been promised to Gadot or definitively discussed about her continuing as Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe. These are competing accounts; the available reporting does not settle what was said privately.
Is Wonder Woman 3 happening?
The reporting cited here does not establish a formal greenlight or a current production plan. Gadot’s account describes what she says Gunn and Safran told her, while Variety’s sources described the project as not in development. Neither account amounts to a publicly announced studio commitment.

That distinction matters: a conversation about developing a project is not the same as a film being approved, scheduled, or cast. The latest Variety report does not announce a production start, release date, or confirmed return for Gadot.
What happened to the earlier Patty Jenkins project?
The earlier third-film project associated with director Patty Jenkins and Gadot fell apart after Warner Bros. leadership passed on Jenkins’ treatment in December 2022, according to Variety’s retrospective reporting. Jenkins publicly rejected the idea that she had abandoned the project, saying, “I never walked away.” She said she understood there was nothing she could do to move it forward at that time.

In a March 20, 2025 Variety profile, the third film was described as canceled amid the studio’s reboot, while Jenkins said she and Gadot still had more work to do together. That history concerns the earlier Jenkins-Gadot version; it does not by itself establish whether a different version will be developed.
Is Gal Gadot returning as Wonder Woman?
Gadot is not presenting a return as certain. In Variety’s September 2026 interview, she said she was unsure she would take on another film even if one became possible. She cited her four children, their schools, and the long period away from home that a production would require. That is her current personal uncertainty, not a formal casting decision or announcement that she has left the role.

Gadot also criticized how other departures were handled, including Henry Cavill’s and Jenkins’. She said those situations were “not handled elegantly,” while adding that “we’re all adults and it’s all good.” Her comments describe her view of the studio’s handling of those cases; they do not resolve the project’s status.
