In the memoir passage quoted by ABC News, Bertinelli wrote: “’I love you’ are the last words Ed says to Wolfie and me,” adding that those were the last words she and Wolfgang said to him before he stopped breathing. The exchange, as she recalled it, was shared by all three.
When the exchange took place
ABC News reported that Bertinelli and Wolfgang visited Van Halen daily in the hospital. Bertinelli described sitting with him on Friday night; on Tuesday morning, Wolfgang called her because Van Halen’s breathing had changed. Van Halen died on October 6, 2020.
