Valerie Bertinelli publicly disputed the claim that talks over her return to Kids Baking Championship had stalled. In January 2024, responding to a headline about her wanting to continue on Food Network, she wrote: “There were never any talks, so no talks could be stalled.” She said she would not return to the show, which she co-hosted with Duff Goldman.
Did talks about Bertinelli returning to Food Network stall?
That was the implication of a January 2024 headline, but it was not Bertinelli’s account. In a public response on X, reproduced in contemporaneous Variety reporting published by Yahoo Entertainment, she wrote: “There were never any talks, so no talks could be stalled.” The distinction matters: the headline’s wording described a reported possibility; Bertinelli directly denied that negotiations had taken place.
What did Bertinelli say about leaving Kids Baking Championship?
Bertinelli said she would not return to Kids Baking Championship, where she had co-hosted with Duff Goldman. Contemporary reports said she learned of the decision through a third party. She expressed sadness about leaving but said she had no ill will toward Food Network. TVLine’s January 2024 report attributed her explanation to budget cuts.
Why did Food Network not bring her back?
The available accounts are not a single confirmed explanation, and they should not be merged into one. Bertinelli cited budget cuts. Separately, the Variety report cited sources who said Food Network did not offer her a role limited to Kids Baking Championship, amid the belief that she would not accept such a role without renewal of her broader deal. A TV Insider retrospective published in 2026, citing Variety, said her contract ended in 2022 and was not renewed.
