UNTAMED is a six-episode Netflix mystery thriller set in Yosemite National Park. It follows National Parks Service investigator Kyle Turner as he probes a woman’s fatal fall from El Capitan and finds that the case reaches into the park’s past—and his own. Netflix announced a second season in March 2026, moving Turner to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park; that announcement did not include a release date.
What is UNTAMED about?
The first season begins when a woman falls to her death from El Capitan. Experienced investigator Kyle Turner suspects the death was not an accident. As he works the case with rookie ranger Naya Vasquez, the investigation leads through Yosemite’s vast wilderness and into old secrets connected to Turner’s own history.
Netflix describes the series as a character-driven mystery thriller. Vasquez is new to Yosemite, so her perspective brings the park’s beauty and danger into the story alongside Turner’s more seasoned view. The series treats the landscape as part of the investigation, not just a backdrop: the case unfolds in remote terrain where modern conveniences and tools are limited.
This overview avoids the season’s resolution. Netflix’s episode guide identifies the victim as Lucy and describes the investigation’s eventual outcome, so viewers who want to preserve the mystery should skip those episode synopses.

Yes. Netflix reported on 4 March 2026 that season two was in production in O’ahu and Hawai‘i. Turner will investigate a new mystery at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. Netflix had not announced a release date in that report; the report’s status should not be taken as confirmation that no later date has been announced.

The update announced Eric Bana alongside Shea Whigham, Kelly Hu, Moon Bloodgood, Kekoa Kekumano, Luciane Buchanan, Moronai Kanekoa, Matthew Keoni Sato, Robbie Magasiva, Myra Molloy, Branscombe Richmond and Joe Tippett. Netflix identified Whigham as Ray Burkart and Hu as Awapuhi. Further casting and character details may change as production updates continue.
The first season was originally announced in 2024 as a six-episode limited series. Netflix’s later season-two announcement changes the current outlook: the initial limited-series label described the original plan, but the story is now continuing with another season. In Netflix’s season-two update, the company also said Turner leaves Yosemite after solving the first season’s case and releasing some of the emotional burden he had carried there.
