How many people were injured, and how serious were their injuries?

Descriptions of injury severity differed: fire officials characterized the transported patients’ injuries as minor, while the Associated Press reported that the CHP said some injuries were moderate without specifying how many.

What caused the crash?
The reported mechanism was the final tram car striking a guardrail while the tram negotiated a turn. CHP led the investigation. The available reporting does not provide final investigative findings or establish an underlying cause, so claims about speed, operator conduct, vehicle condition, or a safety-system failure would be speculation.

Universal said it was supporting guests and reviewing the circumstances. In a statement reported by ABC News on April 21, 2024, a spokesperson said, “We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident.”
The company said tours resumed on a modified route while it worked with public agencies, including CHP. That was the reported immediate response; the available accounts do not verify the route or operating status now.
