For Raúl Rosas Jr., “Chiwiwis” is an excited exclamation, roughly like saying “wow.” He says he picked it up from a close friend who used it while they played ping-pong during training. The available reporting describes it as Rosas’s personal catchphrase, not as established Mexican slang.
What does “Chiwiwis” mean?
Rosas described it as an expression of excitement: “Es una palabra de emoción, es como decir wow” — “It’s a word of excitement, it’s like saying wow.” ESPN reported his explanation in September 2024. This is his description of how he uses the phrase, not a formal linguistic definition. ESPN’s report
Where did Rosas get the phrase?
According to Rosas’s account reported by ESPN, a close friend named Carlos Figueroa would say “Chiwiwis” while the two played ping-pong during training. Rosas picked it up and began saying it when he was excited. A later BAD MMA page, dated September 25, 2024, also recounts the ping-pong origin while linking to MMA Junkie’s coverage; it is corroboration, not an independent primary account. BAD MMA’s account
How did it become associated with him?
The phrase caught on after Rosas used it spontaneously in a post-fight interview following his win over Ricky Turcios, ESPN reported. UFC Español later showed Rosas shouting “Chiwiwis” with the crowd after a win at Arena Ciudad de México, making it a shared celebration in that event setting. UFC Español’s video

Did Rosas sell “Chiwiwis” shirts?
ESPN reported that fans asked for shirts after the phrase spread and that Rosas and his brothers began selling them. That 2024 report does not establish whether the shirts are currently available, officially licensed through any particular seller, or affiliated with Amazon.
