Set in a hill station in the 1980s–1990s, the film considers the arrangement through the perspectives of the people inside it rather than treating it as a sensational premise.
What is Two Sisters and a Husband about?
Rajat lives with sisters Amrita and Tara in a hill station. Amrita is pregnant, while Tara seeks solace by speaking with a therapist, Mohsin. Rajat works as a hotel manager at a property owned by Bhed Singh. The New Indian Express places the story in the Himalayan foothills in the 1980s and 1990s, and says the sisters have moved there from Meerut.

The central relationship is unusual, but director Shlok Sharma has described the film as a “relationship drama.” Its questions concern how the three characters understand and justify their choices, not simply the mechanics of their arrangement.
Who made the film?
Fundamental Pictures identifies the film as Sharma’s third feature. Sharma and Shilpa Srivastava are credited as writers; Navin Shetty, Sharma and Anurag Kashyap are credited as producers.

The listed cast includes Avani Rai, Dinker Sharma, Manya Grover, Himanshu Kohli and Ashutosh Pathak. Arjun Mitra is credited as cinematographer and Faraz Malik as editor.
What inspired the story?
In a 2022 interview with Scroll, Sharma said the idea grew from a family he remembered encountering as a child: a man and two women who were sisters. He recalled being told that the husband worked away in the Merchant Navy, and said he wondered how the family lived under one roof. This is Sharma’s account of the memory that sparked the film, not independent reporting about the family.

- Frozen II - DVD
Sharma said he began writing after shooting Haraamkhor. The script was started around 2013, then revisited with co-writer Srivastava in 2019. During that later development, the setting shifted from contemporary times to the 1980s–1990s. He told Scroll that he wanted to understand each character’s perspective rather than judge them.
How did Sharma approach the setting and production?
The film was shot over a 26-day schedule that began in October 2020, mostly in Nainital, according to Scroll. Sharma said cinematographer Arjun Mitra aimed to convey the characters’ emotional coldness rather than simply emphasize the beauty of the hills.

The period setting and remote location frame the characters’ domestic life, but the director’s stated focus is their differing inner perspectives.
Where did the film screen?
Two Sisters and a Husband had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022. Fundamental Pictures also lists a screening at the Calgary International Film Festival. In June 2022, The New Indian Express reported that the team planned to pursue further festivals before a commercial theatrical release; that was a plan at the time, not confirmation of a later release.
