It started with a wager between Jericho and his tag-team partner Christian: Jericho would pursue Trish while Christian pursued Lita. The angle changed when Jericho was presented as developing genuine feelings, then came apart after Trish learned about the bet. It ended at WrestleMania XX, when Trish turned on Jericho and kissed Christian.
What was the relationship between Trish Stratus and Chris Jericho?
It was an on-screen WWE storyline, not evidence that the performers had a real-life romance. WWE’s retrospective describes the characters as dating in late 2003 and says Jericho developed real feelings within the story. The relationship was part of a larger plot involving Christian and Lita, not a standalone pairing.
WWE’s official retrospective calls it a “Canadian love story” and describes the setup as a one-Canadian-dollar wager. Jericho would try to woo Trish, while Christian pursued Lita. Both men were partners, but the bet made their romantic pursuits a competition. WWE’s Trish Stratus retrospective and its WrestleMania XX love-triangle feature recount the angle.
How the Raw storyline unfolded
The wager starts the courtship
WWE dates the bet to October 2003. The premise was cynical: Jericho and Christian were trying to prove which of them could win over the women. By mid-November, WWE’s account says Trish and Jericho were dating seriously. The shift from a bet to Jericho’s portrayed feelings gave the angle its central tension: even if his attachment became sincere, it began with a deception.

Trish learns about the bet
A December 2003 recap on Trish Stratus’s official site describes Trish planning a special moment with Jericho before overhearing that he had called her pathetic and was pursuing her to win the wager. The recap says she left in tears. It is a dated account of the segment, rather than a transcript of every moment in the episode. WWE’s Raw video listing for December 29, 2003 likewise identifies a segment in which Trish wants nothing to do with Jericho.
An uneasy attempt to be friends
On the January 26, 2004 episode of Raw, Trish told Jericho they could have a good relationship, meaning a close friendship. A recap on TrishStratus.com describes Jericho agreeing while misunderstanding what she meant. The exchange kept the characters in an uncomfortable middle ground: the romance had been damaged, but the story had not yet reached its final confrontation.

Why did Trish turn on Jericho at WrestleMania XX?
The turn paid off the betrayal. On March 14, 2004, Jericho wrestled Christian at WrestleMania XX with Trish initially in Jericho’s corner. After the match, she helped Christian and kissed him, making her rejection of Jericho public and unmistakable. WWE’s retrospective describes her kicking Jericho while he was down before kissing Christian in front of the Madison Square Garden crowd.
The payoff joined the story’s two strands: Jericho’s initial wager and later feelings, and Trish’s discovery that she had been treated as a way to win a bet. Christian, who had pursued Lita as part of the same wager, became the person Trish sided with at the climax. WWE’s career retrospective and WrestleMania XX feature place the betrayal after the Jericho–Christian match.

Where to find the key Raw segment
For a dated reference point in the aftermath, WWE lists the December 29, 2003 Raw segment as “Trish Stratus wants nothing to do with Chris Jericho.” That listing anchors one episode in the story, while the decisive payoff came later at WrestleMania XX rather than on Raw.
TrishStratus.com also preserves dated recaps of the December betrayal and the January 26 friendship conversation: December 2003 recap and January 26, 2004 recap. These are useful companion accounts of the storyline’s Raw chapters; WWE’s retrospectives provide the broader official framing.
