At D23 2024, attendees saw an in-room-only early look at TRON: Ares during Disney Entertainment’s showcase on August 9, 2024. That was not the first public trailer. Disney released the first trailer and poster on April 5, 2025, eight months later.
What D23 attendees saw in August 2024
The TRON: Ares segment was part of Disney Entertainment’s Friday night showcase at the Honda Center in Anaheim on August 9, 2024. According to Disney’s own D23 recap, the cast appeared on stage, and attendees were shown an early look that was limited to the room. Disney’s recap does not describe that footage as a trailer or make it available to the public online.
The cast segment
Jared Leto appeared on a Lightcycle alongside Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters. The cast discussed their characters. The segment also used red lasers to announce that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails would write the film’s music.
What the recap does and does not say
The recap identifies Joachim Rønning as director and gives the film’s October 10, 2025 slot. It does not give an attendance figure, view count, or any other audience measure for the early look, and it does not call the footage the first trailer. Readers who saw the early look in the room, or who have seen it described as a “trailer,” should treat that as a description of the event rather than a public release.

When the first public trailer arrived
Disney’s first public trailer and poster were announced on April 5, 2025, through Disney UK Press. The table below separates the D23 early look from the public release and the later dates that followed.
| Date | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| August 9, 2024 | In-room-only early look shown to D23 attendees at the Honda Center showcase | D23 recap |
| April 5, 2025 | Disney releases the first trailer and poster for TRON: Ares online | Disney UK Press |
| October 10, 2025 | Scheduled US theatrical release date on Disney’s film page; the UK press materials also list this date for UK cinemas | Disney film page; Disney UK Press |
| January 7, 2026 | Streaming start date on Disney+, as announced in a December 30, 2025 press release | Disney+ press release |
So the answer to the question people usually ask is this: the D23 2024 footage was an early look for people in the room, and the film’s first trailer was the April 2025 online release. The two should not be treated as the same event.

The premise Disney has published
Disney’s official synopsis reads: “TRON: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.” That is studio copy, not a quotation from a named cast or crew member.
Disney describes the film as a follow-up to the 1982 original TRON and to TRON: Legacy from 2010. The story’s core change is that the digital world’s Program leaves its own environment and enters ours, which is the premise the 2024 showcase and the 2025 trailer both set up.

How to tell which “first look” someone means
- If someone says it was shown at D23 2024: they most likely mean the in-room-only early look from August 9, 2024.
- If someone says the first trailer came out: they mean the online release on April 5, 2025.
- If someone says it is streaming: confirm the date and service in your own country, because the January 7, 2026 date was an announcement tied to Disney+ and not a global rollout statement.
