Travis Kelce’s Taylor Swift “nod” was a brief dance to “Shake It Off” during New Heights Live at the University of Cincinnati on April 11, 2024. Swift was not there. The evening ended with a surprise commencement ceremony for Travis and his brother, Jason, who received their UC diplomas onstage.
What happened during the Taylor Swift nod?
At New Heights Live, the podcast event hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce, Taylor Swift’s music played and Travis danced to “Shake It Off.” The University of Cincinnati’s account of the evening describes the moment as a dance; it does not report Swift attending. UC’s event account was published April 16, 2024.
Was Taylor Swift at the UC event?
No. UC says Swift was not in attendance. The connection was the music and Travis’s brief dance, not an appearance by Swift.
Why did the Kelce brothers receive diplomas there?
The event closed with an impromptu commencement ceremony, rather than a regular University of Cincinnati graduation. UC Athletic Director John Cunningham announced the surprise, and UC President Neville Pinto joined the brothers and their parents onstage. The ceremony recognized the Kelces as UC alumni and conferred their diplomas; they were not given honorary degrees.

Travis Kelce’s missed graduation
Travis said he had not walked at his 2012 graduation because of an outstanding equipment issue involving a lost helmet. UC brought the helmet onstage during the ceremony. Travis offered the graduates in the audience this advice: “You gotta fight for your right to party!” He also joked, “Don’t forget to get your degrees on the way out,” according to UC’s account.
