Todd Meadows, a 25-year-old deckhand featured on Discovery’s Deadliest Catch, died after falling overboard from the Aleutian Lady in the Bering Sea on February 25, 2026. The U.S. Coast Guard said the crew recovered him unresponsive about ten minutes after the vessel reported the incident. A later report on his death certificate listed drowning, with probable hypothermia and submersion in cold water.

What happened to Todd Meadows?

The Aleutian Lady notified Coast Guard watchstanders that Meadows had fallen overboard about 170 miles (274 kilometers) north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, on February 25, 2026. According to the Coast Guard account reported by the Associated Press on March 3, the crew recovered him unresponsive about ten minutes later and attempted resuscitation, but could not revive him. The vessel brought his body to Dutch Harbor. AP’s report

What was Todd Meadows’ cause of death?

In an April 6, 2026 report, the Los Angeles Times said Meadows’ death certificate listed drowning, with probable hypothermia and submersion in cold water. The Times attributed its information to the death certificate, which it said TMZ obtained. Tributes from Discovery and Captain Rick Shelford

Captain Rick Shelford announced Meadows’ death in a social-media post around March 2, 2026. In words quoted by the AP, Shelford remembered Meadows’ devotion to his family: “Todd’s love for his children, his family, and his life was evident in everything he did. He worked hard, loved deeply, and brought joy to those around him.”

Discovery Channel also issued a statement, quoted by the AP: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Todd Meadows. This is a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his loved ones, his crewmates, and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time.”

What is known about the investigation?

The AP reported on March 3, 2026, that the Coast Guard was investigating the incident at that time. That report does not establish the investigation’s current status.
