A Maroni seizure of a Drops shipment sends the Falcone organization looking for an insider. Oz, played by Colin Farrell, works to steer suspicion elsewhere and earn Sofia’s trust as she grieves her brother Alberto. The maneuver becomes more dangerous when Oz meets Salvatore Maroni: Sal threatens to expose Oz as Alberto’s killer, turning Oz’s effort to manage the Falcone crisis into a personal risk as well.
Cristin Milioti plays Sofia, and Rhenzy Feliz plays Victor Aguilar, whom Oz is also trying to bring closer. That gives the episode more than one relationship to position, though the central contest is between Oz and Sofia. “Inside Man” is Season 1’s second episode, directed by Craig Zobel and written by Lauren LeFranc. It premiered September 29, 2024, and runs 56 minutes, according to TV Guide and Rotten Tomatoes.
#1 Best Overall
Is “Inside Man” mostly setup, or does Oz make a real move?
Mostly setup—but not empty setup. The episode’s movement comes through leverage: Oz wants Sofia’s confidence, the Falcones want to identify a traitor, and the Maronis can make Oz’s secret a weapon. Each side has something the others need or fear. That structure gives the hour a clear engine, even when it is more concerned with arranging the next conflict than resolving the current one.
William Hughes of The A.V. Club described the hour as “mostly about moving our two main characters into position in relation to each other.” That is a useful account of its design, rather than a verdict on whether the design works. Here, the positioning is effective when a negotiation changes what Oz or Sofia can safely do; it is less satisfying when a move chiefly points toward later developments. The episode establishes the board more firmly than it reshapes it.
Rank #2
Does Sofia become a counter-player?
Sofia’s grief is part of the episode’s pressure, but it does not have to reduce her to a grieving sister. The Falcone search for an internal leak places her inside the same problem Oz is trying to manipulate. Their relationship is therefore more interesting than a simple test of whether she will believe him: trust is a resource, and either character can benefit from controlling how the other reads the crisis.
The hour’s strongest dramatic possibility lies in that uncertainty. Oz needs Sofia to accept his version of events, while the threat of exposure gives him reason to fear what she might discover. Sofia’s position matters because she is not merely the destination of Oz’s scheme; she is part of the power struggle that determines whether it works. The tension is more compelling as a contest of judgment than as a succession of plot revelations.

What does Victor add to Oz’s maneuvering?
Oz’s attempt to draw Victor closer broadens the episode’s picture of influence: the criminal chessboard is not only about established family leaders, but also about who can recruit and shape a less powerful ally. At this stage, however, Victor’s thread plays more as an indication of Oz’s appetite for control than as a second conflict with the same weight as the Sofia–Oz dynamic. It adds texture to the setup without displacing the main contest.
How does the episode fit the season?
Warner Bros. frames the series as continuing the crime saga begun in Matt Reeves’s The Batman. “Inside Man” keeps its attention on the immediate mechanics of that world—family loyalty, business, suspicion, and the danger of a secret becoming useful to an enemy—rather than making its connection to the film the point of the hour. As a second chapter, it converts the premiere’s fallout into a more specific struggle over who gets believed and who controls the next move.
Rank #4
- Blu-ray Movies, Blu-ray TV Shows
That makes the episode a measured bridge rather than a major payoff. Its success depends on whether the viewer finds shifting trust compelling in its own right. The Maroni threat supplies urgency, and the Sofia–Oz relationship supplies a promising center; the stolen shipment and traitor hunt are the machinery that brings them into contact.
