Texas sued Roblox over allegations that it failed to protect children and misled parents about risks on its platform. The lawsuit is disputed, and a March 2026 court ruling allowed one of the state’s claims to continue while dismissing another; that ruling did not decide whether the allegations are true.
What is the Texas Roblox lawsuit about?
The Texas Attorney General’s Office announced the lawsuit on November 7, 2025. Roblox’s later filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission dates the state’s complaint to November 6, 2025. Texas alleges that Roblox exposed children to sexually explicit content, exploitation and grooming, failed to adequately protect them, and deceived parents about dangers on the platform. The state also accused the company of prioritizing profit over child safety. Those are the state’s allegations, not established facts.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton used the phrase “digital playgrounds for predators” in announcing the suit, saying: “We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators where the well-being of our kids is sacrificed on the altar of corporate greed.” That is Paxton’s characterization, not a court finding.
What claims did Texas bring, and what did it seek?
Roblox’s Form 10-Q describes the complaint as alleging violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act and Texas common-nuisance law, based on the state’s claims that the company did not adequately protect children on its platform. The state sought civil penalties, declaratory and injunctive relief, and attorneys’ fees and costs. These are the claims and remedies described in the company’s filing; the filing does not establish that Texas proved them.

What did Roblox say in response?
A Roblox spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company was “disappointed” and called the lawsuit a case based on “misrepresentations and sensationalized claims.” The spokesperson said Roblox prohibits sharing images and videos in chat, uses filters intended to block the exchange of personal information, and has trained teams and automated tools to monitor communications and detect and remove harmful content. These are Roblox’s descriptions of its policies and systems, not independent findings about how effective they are.
In its November 2025 report, TechCrunch also described parental controls, communication restrictions, tools to detect large numbers of users violating rules, age estimation, content and maturity labels, and content controls. Those descriptions reflect the report at that time and should not be taken as a definitive inventory of Roblox’s current features.

What has the court decided?
According to Roblox’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, the Travis County District Court ruled on March 6, 2026, on Roblox’s motion to dismiss. It dismissed Texas’s common-nuisance claim but allowed the Deceptive Trade Practices Act claim to proceed. A motion-to-dismiss ruling is procedural: allowing a claim to continue is not a finding that its allegations are true, and dismissing the nuisance claim is not a ruling on every allegation in the case.
Roblox described the proceedings as being in early stages and said it could not reasonably estimate a loss or range of loss, if any. The filing reports the March ruling, but the sources cited here do not establish whether later court orders or filings changed the case. The status above is therefore dated to Roblox’s June 30, 2026 quarterly filing, not a live docket update.

How large is Roblox, according to the cited coverage?
TechCrunch reported that Roblox had 151.5 million daily active users as of September 30, 2025, citing the company’s SEC filing. This is a dated figure, not a current user count, and it provides scale rather than evidence for or against the allegations.
