That makes “finally worth watching” a fair verdict for viewers who were waiting for the story to gather momentum—not a proven consensus, or proof that the first three episodes failed.
What changes in “Quarterback Blitz”?
The episode’s hook is not a single action set piece. It is the way several active storylines begin to affect one another: Martian and Henry pursue missing operative Coyote through a meeting with Belarusian officials; Sami’s work connects Martian’s personal life to secret negotiations; and Danny faces a risky first assignment. A surveillance thread then turns those personal and operational pressures into an immediate threat.
That broader shape gives the hour a more engaging intelligence-story rhythm. Negotiation, observation and vulnerability matter alongside danger, and the stakes reach beyond Martian’s own cover. The official synopsis is more restrained: Paramount+ describes the episode as “Henry and Martian run diplomatic interference. Danny walks a tightrope.”
How the episode builds its stakes
Belarus: an intelligence problem handled through diplomacy
In the present-day storyline, Martian, Henry and Bosko meet Belarusian officials while trying to find Coyote. A politically charged remark complicates the encounter, but the scene’s tension comes from maneuvering rather than a straightforward action sequence: Henry and Martian use the meeting to identify a possible contact. It gives the search for Coyote a procedural strand and shows intelligence work as a contest of judgment and access.

Sami: a personal connection with geopolitical consequences
Flashforwards reveal Sami’s role in secret Sudanese-Chinese talks. As presented in the episode recap, she is a regional expert involved in negotiations tied to the Sudanese conflict, while American intelligence is unaware of China’s role. This expands the story beyond the question of Martian’s romance: Sami’s work has consequences in its own right and helps explain why she is in London and why she matters to Martian’s larger situation. The identity of the woman Martian is speaking to in the flashforwards remains unresolved.
Danny: a first assignment under pressure
Danny is told she will have to compete for a Tehran posting and is expected to discuss distributed acoustic sensing despite not knowing the subject. Her encounter with Reza becomes a test of vulnerability and judgment; the recap characterizes his conduct as predatory and describes Danny getting out of the car. Her prospects for the posting remain uncertain, so this is pressure—not a completed mission or an uncomplicated success.

Martian’s family life becomes part of the tradecraft
Martian takes his daughter Poppy out and shows her how to lose a tail. The lesson makes surveillance tangible in an ordinary family setting, while Osman is watching Martian. The scene’s tension lies in how completely Martian’s instincts intrude on private life: even time with his daughter becomes a chance to teach a skill shaped by his work.
A cover name turns into a cliffhanger
Osman later confronts Sami and demands the identity of the man she is seeing. She gives him Martian’s cover name, Paul Lewis. That disclosure creates a specific question to carry into the next episode: what will happen if Martian’s alias is exposed?

Is The Agency worth watching by episode 4?
For viewers who wanted the series’ strands to feel more connected, “Quarterback Blitz” makes a persuasive case to continue. Its appeal comes from the overlap: diplomatic maneuvering advances the search for Coyote, Sami’s negotiations broaden the stakes, Danny’s assignment shows the institutional and personal costs of fieldwork, and the surveillance plot puts Martian’s cover at risk.
That is a judgment about this episode’s momentum, not a claim that the whole series objectively improves here or that viewers agree. The episode offers a clearer set of pressures and a pointed cliffhanger; whether that is enough to make the show worth watching depends on how much you value slow-building spy drama over immediate resolution.
