Despite the familiar title “The 10 Richest Podcasters Of 2019,” the ranking reproduced by Forbes Italia lists five entries—not ten—and measures estimated earnings, not personal net worth.
What the 2019 ranking measures
Forbes Italia published a reproduction of Forbes’ ranking on February 7, 2020. Its figures estimate pretax earnings from January 1, 2019, through January 1, 2020. They do not subtract agent, manager, or lawyer fees. The estimates drew on data from Apple, Stitcher, Magellan AI, Edison, and Pollstar, as well as interviews with industry experts. Forbes Italia’s account of the ranking and methodology describes the figures as more than podcast-advertising income alone.
The estimates include advertising on each host’s flagship program and ancillary revenue from tours, paid subscriptions, and related media such as books and YouTube videos. Advertising was counted for the flagship program only. The source does not break out how much each person earned from any individual revenue stream, so the figures should not be read as earnings from advertising alone.
The five entries in the available ranking
The title refers to ten podcasters, but the Forbes ranking located for this article reports five entries. It does not establish five additional names, so none are added here.

| Rank | Host or hosts | Flagship show | Estimated earnings |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Joe Rogan | The Joe Rogan Experience | $30 million |
| 2 | Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark | My Favorite Murder | $15 million combined |
| 3 | Dave Ramsey | The Dave Ramsey Show | $10 million |
| 4 | Dax Shepard | Armchair Expert | $9 million |
| 5 | Bill Simmons | The Bill Simmons Podcast | $7 million |
These are estimated earnings for the period and revenue categories described above, not verified measures of the hosts’ wealth. Statista’s February 5, 2020, chart, “The Highest-Earning Podcasts,” also identifies the ranking as an earnings list and corroborates the top figures for Rogan and Kilgariff and Hardstark.
What the figures say about podcasting in 2019
The ranking reflects a business model in which a flagship show can sit alongside other income sources, including touring, subscriptions, books, and video. It does not show how much any one of these categories contributed to an individual host’s total. The market was also expanding: Forbes Italia reported that IAB and PwC put podcast advertising spend at nearly $700 million in 2019, nearly seven times the prior year. That is an industry-wide advertising figure, not revenue earned by the five people listed.
