There is no definitive all-time ranking of Black power couples. This editorial selection highlights ten partnerships for their public and cultural influence, individual or shared work, and documented significance—not because a source has proved they outrank every other couple. The list spans civil rights, public service, music, film, and sports; its details are drawn from The Knot’s roundup, updated September 25, 2025.
1. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King
Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King’s partnership is inseparable from the U.S. civil rights movement. They married on June 18, 1953. After King’s assassination in 1968, Coretta Scott King continued the work of preserving and advancing his legacy, including by founding The King Center. Their place on this list reflects both the movement’s public record and her sustained leadership after his death.
2. Nelson Mandela and Graça Machel
Nelson Mandela and Graça Machel brought together lives shaped by political struggle and public service. 6. Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens

10. Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha

The Knot’s September 25, 2025, article presents 21 Black celebrity couples, but does not offer a ranking dataset or scoring method for an all-time top ten. Its list is a candidate pool, not proof of historical order. Other couples could make a reasonable list under different criteria.
