Director Damien Leone says he substantially trimmed the film’s killing of Gabbie’s mother. In a Screen Rant interview with Grant Hermanns, as quoted by Its Prime Media, Leone said the scene “was supposed to be way worse” and that the shots left in the film are “almost subliminal” and very fast.

Leone’s full comment, reproduced by Its Prime Media in a story published October 13, 2024, was: “I’m glad to hear that, especially because the scene with the mother was supposed to be way worse. I actually wound up trimming it a lot where the shots that you do see are almost subliminal and everything is so fast. But even still, it’s just the idea of what’s happening is so cruel and gruesome, so I’m glad that it worked.”

Which kill is he referring to?
The report identifies the scene as Art the Clown and Vicky killing Gabbie’s mother while Sienna watches. It frames the killing as an attempt to break Sienna’s spirit; that is the report’s description of the scene’s purpose, not a separate production statement quoted from Leone.
What was cut—and what remains unknown?
Leone said he trimmed the scene substantially and described the shots viewers see as fast and nearly subliminal.
