Reneé Rapp has described acting as a route toward her music career, and her two albums mark a shift in how she approached that ambition. In interviews around 2025’s BITE ME, she spoke about setting boundaries and finding a stronger sense of ownership after the attention surrounding 2023’s Snow Angel. She has also talked publicly about ADHD, anxiety, relationships and the pressures of work—always as personal experience, not as a universal account of mental health.
How Rapp describes the change from Snow Angel to BITE ME
Snow Angel was Rapp’s 2023 debut full-length album. Her 2025 sophomore album, BITE ME, came after a period of growing attention that included the sold-out Snow Hard Feelings Tour and her turn as Regina George in the 2024 Mean Girls film. In a 2025 interview with GRAMMY.com, Rapp said the demand for more from her had left her feeling she was losing herself. She described the new record as emerging from setting harder boundaries and paying closer attention to what she wanted in her personal life.

Rapp summed up the difference this way: “Snow Angel was a test run, and BITE ME is a body of work.” That is her own assessment of the albums, not a critic’s verdict. The Associated Press likewise described Snow Angel as an experiment in finding her sound across pop, R&B and ballads, and called BITE ME a time capsule of two years shaped by the music business, other people’s expectations and Rapp’s own goals.
A record about expectation and ownership
In a 2025 interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Rapp described feeling in competition with an idealized version of herself and wanting to recover what first made her love music. The interview presents BITE ME as the result of that reset. The point is not that one album is objectively better: Rapp’s account is about feeling more connected to the work and her own choices.

GRAMMY.com reports that Alexander 23 collaborated on 11 of the album’s 12 tracks, with additional contributions from Ryan Tedder, Omer Fedi, Julian Bunetta and Ali Tamposi. The songs range across flirtation, heartbreak, intimacy and betrayal. Rapp told the outlet that completing the album made her cry because she felt happy and proud of what she and her collaborators had made.
Why Rapp left Broadway and how acting fits her career
Rapp’s public acting profile includes Regina George in the Tony-nominated Broadway musical Mean Girls, Leighton Murray in The Sex Lives of College Girls, and Regina again in the 2024 Mean Girls film. In a 2025 interview with The Guardian, she said her ambition was to become a pop star and that she had got into acting as a means to an end.
Her departure from the Broadway production has a more specific, historical explanation. In a 2023 Guardian interview, she said leaving the show was connected to preserving her mental health. That account concerns her circumstances then; it should not be taken as an explanation for every later acting decision. The same profile reported that she won a Jimmy Award in 2018 and moved to New York in 2019 to take over as Regina.
The 2024 film and its soundtrack connect her acting work with her music career. Interscope’s artist page lists physical releases including a Mean Girls soundtrack vinyl, alongside Snow Angel and BITE ME formats. The label’s listings can change, so the page establishes what it lists, not current retailer inventory or edition availability.

What Rapp has said about love and relationships
GRAMMY.com’s 2025 profile links the making of BITE ME to Rapp’s developing personal life. It describes her finding community, spending more time with friends and herself, and falling in love with British guitarist and singer-songwriter Towa Bird. The interview also discusses songs that move through different relationship dynamics, from flirtation to heartbreak and betrayal.
Reflecting on the last seven or eight months of making the album, as it began to come together, Rapp told GRAMMY.com: “I love my life. I love my girlfriend. I love my friends. I love everything that I’ve done. I love being alive, even if I’m not happy all the time.” This is a statement about how she felt in that interview’s context, not evidence that she is always happy or that music resolved every difficulty. Relationship details are time-sensitive; the 2025 account does not establish her current status.

What she has shared about ADHD and anxiety
ADHD and songwriting
In an August 2023 interview with Official Charts, Rapp said she had not understood as a child that she had ADHD. Describing how ideas multiplied when she wrote, she said: “When I’m writing a song, ten songs are coming out of that concept. My brain is in ten different places.” She called the process exhausting but fun. That is her account of her own songwriting experience, not general medical guidance about ADHD.
Anxiety and work pressure
In a 2023 Guardian interview published as her debut album was approaching, Rapp spoke about anxiety amid the pressures of her music and acting work. “Everything stresses me out. Since I can remember having thoughts and opinions and feelings, I’ve felt this way,” she said. The interview places the comment in that specific period; it is not a diagnosis or a statement about how she feels at every point in her life.

In 2025, Rapp also discussed depression and suicidal thoughts while explaining a lyric to GRAMMY.com. Those comments belong to the context of that interview and a song; lyrics and retrospective remarks do not establish present risk. Her remarks about loving being alive later in the album-making period provide context, but should not be treated as proof that difficult feelings had disappeared.
