It is an editorial selection, not an official or ranked top five, and the individual contemporary claims have not been independently confirmed here. For a better-documented historical connection, Reading supporters’ trust STAR identifies broadcaster John Arlott as a notable Reading fan from the 1920s onward.
Who are the five Reading FC celebrity supporters?
The names in the contemporary shortlist are Ricky Gervais, Chris Tarrant, Simon Gallup, The Amazons and Nicholas Hoult. A DocumentaryTube report titled “Reading FC Celebrity Supporters: Gervais, Tarrant and More” presents them as celebrity supporters. The names are listed here in no particular order.
“Most famous” has no objective measure in the available information: there is no published ranking, fame score or count of Reading FC’s celebrity supporters. Treat this as a shortlist of public figures associated with the club, not a definitive league table. The report page could not be independently checked, and direct confirmation of each person’s connection was not available.
How strong is the evidence for each name?
The five-name report is a secondary source. The available record does not establish, for each person, whether the connection rests on a direct public statement, match attendance, sustained support or another form of involvement. Those distinctions matter: an attributable interview or repeated, documented attendance is stronger evidence than a name repeated across unsourced lists.

The Premier League’s feature on famous fans of its clubs offers examples of the kinds of evidence used in celebrity profiles, such as public statements, reported lifelong support and attendance; it does not cover Reading FC. See the Premier League’s celebrity-fan feature for that broader context.
John Arlott: a documented historical Reading supporter
For a historical rather than contemporary example, STAR’s Hall of Fame: 1920s–1970s records broadcaster and writer John Arlott as a Reading supporter from the 1920s onward. STAR calls him “the first well-known personality to speak up as a Reading fan” and says he was “the first nationally, indeed possibly internationally, known supporter of Reading FC.” Those descriptions are STAR’s characterisation, not an independently measured ranking.
STAR describes its Hall of Fame as a work in progress about people who played a distinctive part in the club’s life, including journalists and supporters. Arlott is therefore a strong addition to a broader account of Reading’s famous fans, although including him changes the scope from a contemporary shortlist to club history.

Reading Borough Council’s 7 February 2022 account of a Reading Museum exhibition marking the club’s 150th anniversary dates Reading FC’s beginnings to late 1871. The exhibition drew on club and supporter history, including photographs and memorabilia from STAR, as well as items loaned by players. This helps place celebrity support within a wider history of fans and club culture; it does not independently verify the contemporary shortlist.
