No. Matthew McConaughey is not in Sweet Home Alabama. Reese Witherspoon clarified that fans have mistaken her co-star Josh Lucas for McConaughey in the 2002 film.
Why do people confuse Matthew McConaughey with Josh Lucas?
Witherspoon addressed the recurring mix-up in an interview with People, as reported by The Independent. She said: “I’ve done three movies with Matthew, but he’s not in Sweet Home Alabama.”

Witherspoon said people mistake Lucas for McConaughey and recalled that McConaughey hears the same question. She quoted him as saying: “Everybody comes up to me and says, ‘Are you in Sweet Home?’ And I’m not.” That line is Witherspoon relaying McConaughey’s response, not a direct interview quote from him.
Who plays Jake in Sweet Home Alabama?
Josh Lucas plays Jake, the Alabama husband of Witherspoon’s character, Melanie Carmichael. The film follows Melanie, a New York fashion designer who returns home to confront her past and a husband who will not divorce her. Patrick Dempsey plays Andrew.
