Julie Chrisley received the same seven-year prison sentence at her September 25, 2024 resentencing. But she is not still serving it: President Donald Trump pardoned her on May 28, 2025, and she was released from custody that day, the Associated Press reported.

Why was Julie Chrisley resentenced?

Julie and Todd Chrisley were convicted by a federal jury in June 2022 in a case involving bank fraud and tax offenses. The U.S. Department of Justice said the couple conspired to obtain more than $36 million in personal loans from community banks using false financial documents. Julie was also convicted of obstruction of justice.

In June 2024, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit upheld the convictions but found a narrow error in the calculation used to sentence Julie. The sentencing court had included bank-fraud losses from 2006 without identifying evidence that Julie was involved in the scheme that year. The appeals court vacated her sentence and sent the matter back for factual findings and calculations supporting the loss, restitution and forfeiture amounts. It did not overturn her conviction. Read the Eleventh Circuit opinion.

Did the judge give her the same seven-year sentence?

Yes. On September 25, 2024, U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross reimposed a seven-year prison term. The defense had asked for a sentence of no more than five years, while prosecutors sought seven years, according to the Associated Press.

Ross said her original below-guidelines sentence had not been based on the loss amount or the length of time Chrisley was involved, so she considered it appropriate to keep. Chrisley told the court, “I apologize for my actions and what led me to where I am today.” AP’s report on the resentencing.

Is Julie Chrisley still in prison?

No. President Donald Trump pardoned Julie and Todd Chrisley on May 28, 2025. The Associated Press reported that Julie was released from a Kentucky facility that day. The pardon and release came after the 2024 resentencing; they are separate from the appellate court’s decision on how her sentence had been calculated. AP’s report on the pardons and releases.

What sentence and restitution are listed in the clemency record?

The Office of the Pardon Attorney’s clemency listing records Julie Chrisley’s sentence as 84 months’ imprisonment and three years of supervised release, with $4,740,645.04 in restitution. It identifies the sentence as originally imposed on November 21, 2022, and amended on September 25, 2024. The listing names bank-fraud, wire-fraud, tax-related and obstruction offenses. These are the sentence details recorded in the listing, not a statement that she remains in custody. View the clemency record.

What happened after her release?

In June 2026, the Associated Press reported that Julie and Todd Chrisley sued their former defense attorney and law firm, alleging malpractice related to their criminal defense. The defendants’ attorney said the claims would be vigorously defended. The report describes allegations in a civil lawsuit, not a court finding that malpractice occurred. AP’s report on the lawsuit.
