Ray J has accused Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and their production company of breaching a 2023 settlement connected to his sex tape. His cross-complaint followed a defamation lawsuit in which Kardashian and Jenner allege that his public remarks falsely suggested they faced a federal racketeering investigation. The reported $6 million settlement figure is not proof that the full amount was paid, and neither side’s allegations have been established by a final ruling.
Why Kardashian and Jenner sued Ray J
Kardashian and Jenner filed a defamation lawsuit against Ray J in Los Angeles Superior Court in October 2025, according to the Associated Press. Their complaint alleges that his public statements suggested they were subject to a federal racketeering investigation and were facing imminent indictment. The plaintiffs characterize those statements as false and seek relief for defamation and false light, and say they suffered reputational and financial harm. Those are claims in a lawsuit, not findings by a court.

What Ray J alleges in his cross-complaint
In November 2025, Ray J filed a cross-complaint alleging that Kardashian, Jenner and Kardashian Jenner Productions violated a 2023 settlement agreement. A TMZ report says he argued that the agreement barred further discussion of the tape on The Kardashians, and that statements breached the agreement. He seeks damages. The report also included a response from the Kardashians’ attorney. The breach claim remains an allegation; the available material does not establish that a breach occurred or that damages were awarded.
What the settlement agreement says—and what it does not
The reproduced 2023 Confidential Settlement Agreement and Mutual General Release identifies Willie Ray Norwood Jr. (Ray J), Sonja Norwood, Kimberly Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Kardashian Jenner Productions as parties. The signature dates show April 2023, but the day is blank in the reproduced copy.

#1 Best Overall
- It contains mutual releases and a strict confidentiality provision covering the agreement’s existence and terms, the settlement amount and possible payments. The text identifies exceptions, including court orders and actions to enforce the agreement.
- It says the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing or an acknowledgment that any disputed matter is true. The agreement resolves claims and contentions the parties deny and contest; it does not decide whether later alleged conduct breached it.
The $6 million description is reported, not established as a sum fully paid by the reproduced agreement. Its confidentiality language refers to the settlement amount and possible payments, but the copy does not disclose a verified payment total.
How the two legal disputes differ
| Dispute | What is alleged | Where it is being handled |
|---|---|---|
| Kardashian and Jenner’s lawsuit | Defamation and false light based on Ray J’s statements about an alleged federal investigation | Public court case in Los Angeles Superior Court |
| Ray J’s cross-complaint | Breach of the 2023 settlement, including alleged discussion of the tape | Private arbitration, according to a secondary case tracker |
The allegations about a federal investigation are contested. The complaint states, “No such federal investigation exists,” but that is the plaintiffs’ assertion in their pleading, not an independently established finding in the material available here.

What is known about the case’s reported status
A Celebrity Dockets case tracker identifies the case as 25STCV28717 and reports a split procedural result: the defamation claims proceed in court, while the contract cross-complaint is sent to private arbitration under the agreement. The tracker reports a March 6, 2028 trial date for the defamation claims and says an anti-SLAPP decision remained pending after a reply brief filed May 13, 2026.
Those dates and procedural details come from a secondary tracker, not a court docket verified here, and may have changed. The material available does not establish a final ruling on the merits, an arbitration outcome, or a judicial finding that either side violated the agreement.
