Those are evidence of negative reception in specific contexts—not an official industry award or proof that it was objectively the year’s worst anime.
What does “official worst anime” mean here?
There is no universal authority that awards an official title for the worst anime of the year. The evidence behind that framing points to two different sources: an Anime News Network year-end prompt reported by ComicBook.com, and a season-end survey conducted by the r/anime community. Neither is an industry-wide award.

Anime News Network’s year-end prompt
On December 29, 2025, ComicBook.com reported that Anime News Network’s prompt asked readers about the worst anime of the year and included One-Punch Man Season 3 among the candidates. Being included in a prompt is not the same as winning a poll or receiving a formal award. Read ComicBook.com’s report.
The r/anime survey score
The r/anime End of Fall 2025 survey displayed a score of 1.72 for One Punch Man 3. That figure belongs to that survey and its participants; it is not a global audience rating or a measure of every viewer’s opinion. See the r/anime survey results.
What the evidence says—and does not say
- It does say: the season appeared among candidates in a year-end worst-anime prompt, and it received a low score in a Fall 2025 community survey.
- It does not establish: that Season 3 won a universal ranking, that an industry body named it the worst anime, or that all viewers agreed.
- It does not explain why: the available evidence does not isolate a particular creative or production factor as the cause of negative reception.
So, “official worst anime of 2025” overstates what these results show. A more accurate description is that the season drew negative attention in a year-end editorial prompt and a specific community survey.
Season 3 release and production context
The official Japanese anime site announced on September 3, 2025, that the television broadcast would begin October 5, with streaming beginning October 12. Its notice names Shinpei Nagai as director and J.C.STAFF as the animation production studio. These are production credits, not evidence that either person or studio caused the season’s reception.
