Hashirama Senju is the defining natural Wood Release user in Naruto. Madara Uchiha also uses Hashirama’s Wood Style techniques, while Obito Uchiha receives Hashirama tissue through a graft. Those examples are not equivalent—and the available evidence does not establish ten users on the same canonical footing. This guide separates the best-supported cases from names often included in broader secondary lists.
What Wood Release is
Wood Release, or Mokuton (also translated as Wood Style), is a kekkei genkai associated with combining Earth and Water chakra natures. It is not simply a matter of learning ordinary Earth and Water techniques: the series treats Wood Release as a distinct ability. The clearest Wood Release users
Hashirama Senju: the defining natural user
Hashirama is the signature Wood Release user. The NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE’s Hashirama retrospective describes his battle with Madara and his use of Wood Style ninjutsu. It says that by combining Sage Jutsu and Wood Style ninjutsu, he can create a thousand-armed Kan’on statue many times larger than the Nine Tails. The retrospective points to Naruto Volume 65, including chapters 620, 621, and 626, for this part of the story.
Madara Uchiha: uses Hashirama’s techniques
Madara is explicitly shown using the First Hokage’s Wood Style ninjutsu during the Great Ninja War. The official war recap names Wood Style: Deep Forest Bloom among the techniques he showcases. This establishes his use of Wood Style, but not the same natural origin attributed to Hashirama; the recap identifies the techniques as the First Hokage’s. See the official Great Ninja War recap.

Obito Uchiha: Hashirama tissue was grafted onto him
After rescuing Obito, Madara grafted synthetic Hashirama tissue onto him, according to the NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE’s Obito retrospective. A secondary Wood Release overview associates Obito with the ability, but the official retrospective establishes the graft rather than detailing a Wood Release technique by Obito. His case should therefore be described as Hashirama-derived, not treated as interchangeable with Hashirama’s natural ability.
Why a definitive list of ten is difficult
“Known user” can mean someone naturally born with Wood Release, someone who uses techniques through transplanted Hashirama material, or someone merely connected to a Wood Release source. Lists also vary according to whether they include anime-only or game-only material, clones, and characters sharing a body. Those categories should not be collapsed into one count.

The secondary overview also discusses Yamato, Danzō, and White Zetsu in connection with Wood Release. The official material cited above does not independently verify their individual use, and the evidence assembled here does not establish their precise scenes or continuity status. They are plausible names to investigate, but this evidence does not support presenting them as equally verified entries in a ten-person roster.
Accordingly, there is no defensible canonical “ten” to report from these sources. The title’s number is best understood as an editorial list length, not a statistic or an official count in the Naruto world. For a reliable roster, each additional entry needs a specific manga or anime scene, an official profile, or a clearly labeled game source.
