What was the original Lip Sync Battle format?
Announced by Spike in November 2014, the half-hour series set celebrities against one another to lip-sync songs they chose. Casey Patterson, an executive producer, described the appeal as celebrities “going head to head” for “the coolest bragging rights on the planet.” The format made the song selection part of the contest: a familiar track could invite the audience in, while costume, staging and a performer’s public persona supplied the showmanship.

Jimmy Fallon vs. Dwayne Johnson: the premiere matchup

Anna Kendrick and John Krasinski: a performance with a personal target
