Spoilers for “The Night Movers.” In Tracker Season 2, Episode 8, the “ghost” is a man presumed dead in a car crash—not anything supernatural. Colter Shaw’s search for Lucas reaches a resolution, while a new lead in Gina Picket’s disappearance leaves the episode’s larger mystery hanging.
Episode details and premise
“The Night Movers” is Season 2, Episode 8 of Tracker. CBS lists the episode as 42 minutes long, rated TV-14, and first aired December 1, 2024. Its official synopsis says Colter is hired to find a man who seemingly died in a car accident months earlier, while he also catches a break in his “white whale” case. CBS’s episode listing establishes those details.
The two investigations move in different directions: Colter finds answers about the supposedly dead Lucas, but the new information about Gina Picket deepens rather than settles the mystery surrounding her disappearance.
Why Colter takes Lucas’s case
The episode opens with a San Francisco crash involving a propane truck. Nine months later, Colter is approached by Alicia, who wants to know whether her brother Lucas is still alive. He was believed to have died in that crash, but Alicia’s seriously ill mother says Lucas visited her in hospital, said goodbye, and left a peanut butter cup with meaning for the family.

A nurse remembers a visitor concealing his face. The hospital guest book and a handwriting sample give Colter additional clues to follow. These signs make the case more than a search for a missing man: Colter has to determine whether Lucas survived and why he would have let his family believe he was dead.
How the Lucas investigation resolves
Colter and Bobby look into Lucas’s former workplace and relationships. The published recap from Showbiz Junkies reports that Lucas had been living behind a false death story, with a colleague’s murder and danger connected to material taken from the shop giving him reason to disappear.
According to that recap, Colter stages a death to expose corrupt detective Goodman and developer and mayoral candidate Tim Crosby. Goodman and Crosby are arrested, and Lucas can return to his life. That closes the episode’s missing-person case: the “ghost” was Lucas, alive but concealed, rather than a supernatural presence.
Camille and Colter’s unresolved history
Before the new job takes over, Colter meets Camille Picket. Her sister Gina has been missing for ten years, and Camille tells Colter she wants to stop waiting for her. She also says she cannot see him without thinking of Gina. Colter insists he has not stopped looking, but a call from Velma interrupts them with Alicia’s case.

Camille is not simply asking Colter to find her sister; she is trying to create distance from a man whose continued search keeps Gina—and the loss around her—present.
What the ending reveals about Gina’s case
The episode’s final turn brings Colter’s “white whale” case back into focus. Keaton takes him to a man connected to Frank Whales, whom Colter suspects in Gina’s disappearance. The man says that a figure called Teacher controlled him and others, that Whales was made to lure Gina to a place called The Farm, and that Teacher claimed to have planted things there.
Rank #4
TVLine’s coverage of the Gina Picket cliffhanger likewise describes the lead as a turning point, not an answer. The scene ends before Colter learns whether Gina is alive. The episode therefore leaves its long-running mystery open even as Lucas’s case reaches a reported resolution.

“Ghost” is a figurative description of Lucas: he was presumed dead after the crash and vanished from the lives of the people looking for him. The episode uses that case to deliver a contained investigation, then pivots to Gina’s disappearance for a cliffhanger that will have to continue beyond this episode. CBS’s official synopsis establishes that contrast between the search for the supposedly dead man and Colter’s “white whale” case; the detailed ending comes from recap coverage.
